These performances make us want to see all the Tony nominees. For this list, well be looking at the best musical showings from Broadway shows at the prestigious award ceremony that couldve won the Best Tony Award Performance if that category existed. Our countdown includes The Producers, Spring Awakening, American Idiot, and more! Which Tony performance is YOUR favorite?

So basically this video just picked the performances with more members and physical movements on stage. Some of them (anything goes with Sutton) are amazing, but heartbreaking performance that burned down the radio city by one performer like Joaquina in 2022 didnt worth a mention here. Extraordinary solo singing by Cynthia in 2016 didnt worth a mention either.

I can't seem to stress this enough, but I really think that Idina Menzel is highly overrated. I don't like her high notes, het nasal tone and it really sounds like she's struggling a lot of times. There are moments she sounds good, but not enough to give her the grand status she has right now. I also think she is a huge miscast as Elsa.

You cant stop the beat is the greatest finale group number for any musical that I can remember. I cant think of a song that makes me want to sing along or dance for that matter more than this one. And with the choreography and energy level, demanding everything an actor can give of course its nicknamed You cant stop to breathe.

I'm still waiting for you to do Top 23 best animated movie villains of each year (2000 - 2022. And I don't want any reminders of someone else that we've already got one beacause we've already got best animated movies of each year and best movie villains of each year.

I'm sorry, but there were so many amazing performances like Hadestown that were overshadowed in this video. Picking a dance number from a revival over a diamond in the rough like Wait For Me when it was an original piece doesn't sit right with me.

Your list stinks.
Wicked over Caroline or Change?
Once over Porgy and Bess?
Something Rotten over Fun Home?
You even shafted Hadestown.
I agreed with ONE choice so far. Anything Goes.
Your list stinks out loud.

But the greatest badass music of the 2000s was the magical musical masterpiece wicked with our favorite badass witch queen elphaba and before she played the iconic ice queen elsa the one the only tony award winner Idina menzel

The tap performance in Anything Goes was amazing, I know its a cliche but the really dont make them like that anymore! It takes a different kind of skill and talent and always entertains - nothing like 40 tappers all in sync!

2011 is wrong: the absolute best performance from that year was Catch Me if You Cans Norbert Leo Butz's showstopping Breaking All the Rules, showing everyone why he walked away with his second Tony that year.
reply

The craziest thing about The Wild Party is that there was another show that debuted that same season also called The Wild Party based on the same source material. Both casts were full of insanely talented people.
reply

Um. Greenday is absolutely not a punk band. Whatever you feel about them or their music, they are in no way a punk band or have even one recorded song that could be accepted as punk. Thats some comical crap!
reply

Okay, I liked Next to Normal. But be real! For 2009, there's only ONE answer: Titus Burgess leading an absolutely SPECTACULAR rendition of Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat from the revival of Guys & Dolls.
reply

Yup, when A Strange Loop, imho one of the WORST musicals ever written, won over Six I was done with watching the Tonys, besides the clips. Tony is now all about the politics and I'm not interested.
reply

I have to say, I think Come From Away is one of my favourite musicals and it's forever gonna be my favourite Tony performance. Maybe not the best my typical standards, but my favourite none the less.

Being LGBT, I have to give HUGE props to the cast of Hamilton in 2016 for their respects to what happened in the Pulse nightclub. I somehow missed seeing this performance at the Tonys that year.
reply

It's the Hamilton for me. It will always be the Hamilton for me actually
I like this format so much better than the countdown format
Fun fact: R is a letter in the English alphabet too

in 2009, Billy Elliot dominated, taking home TEN awards, including the three young men who won for dancing the part of Billy. Did they not perform at the Tony's? Your choice for 2009 was weak.
reply

I think Neil Patrick Harris is the best and Hamilton and Fun Home and Newsie and Wicked and the Producers are the best ones ever. Also Guys and Dolls and Jersey Boys and The Lion King as well
reply

In The Heights is my favorite! Thought that night the energy was as good and rememberable as Rent. I will play that clip on repeat even today. Also loved Spamalot's Find Your Grail.
reply

Although I like the In the Heights film quite a bit, I really, REALLY want to see this musical on stage.
Thank you for the shout-out to Next to Normal. Such a powerful score.

reply

Can I just say the 2019 performance of Beetlejuice was missing from this list? Super happy with In the Heights and Hamilton being on this list. This list is pretty solid
reply

The fun home performance was way too powerful not to be the best one over something Rotton. Also DEH over great comet, color purple over Hamilton, and paradise square over six.
reply

Along Came Bialy has a very special place in my heart because I got to be in a local production of The Producers in 2008. Six I love because I'm an uber Tudor history nerd!
reply

Everyone gets a mention for 2014 Tonys but not Idina Menzel's performance of Always Starting Over? It brought the house down and I think Hugh Jackman would agree!
reply

Im sorry, but Beetlejuice was probably one of the BEST performances from 2019. Their opening number is always great. Should've been the option for 2019.
reply

I agreed with everything except Next to Normal (Hair was electrifying that year) and Kiss me Kate (Hadestown was aaahhhh. Very good list though!
reply

I love Wicked but tbh Im happy that Avenue Q won. It was bold DEFINITELY pulling things that are shocking, and gotta give them that
reply

Although he has a Tony now, it is still a shame that all of the other principles in Next to Normal were nominated, and Aaron Tveit was not.
reply

Now if you would just do an actual video of the actual performances instead of talking through them and cutting them into pieces
reply

Fun fact the woman plying Seymour in Six actually went on last minute and she was a standby! Shes also Jessie mullers sister lol
