Bless Mike for (fun fact) allowing Janet to borrow his moves from Captain EO and making it into a legendary performance. The military style was one that was, at the time, an up an coming style that Michael was going to use himself until Janet requested that she take it on for her video. He talks about it in his home movies where he says he was slightly disappointed ans says I could choke you (lol) as he was going in that direction himself, but he loved his sister more and gave her his blessing to use his work and expand on it. He said he danced to Rhythm Nation in his dance studio as it was not only his fave Janet song/video but one of his fave songs/vids in general.

I know this is recent, but Kylie Minogue's Tension video is nothing short of a masterpiece, so for future reference. Her Come Into My World video won her a Grammy like 25 years ago. Critics have likened the video to the movie Suspiria in a family-friendly form, another critic said it portrays the feud between Kylie Minogue and Kylie Jenner, where at the end, Minogue asserts her ownership of the Kylie name. Other people liken the video to such music videos like Come Into My World and Did It Again where Kylie seems to compete (or challenge) other versions of herself.

The 3rd video should be way down the list, with Madonna's Vogue in the top five. And, sorry don't agree with the Queen B video either-should be dropped much lower. Janet Jackson should have been higher. The Beastie Boys. much lower on list. So, unfortunately I don't agree with the list. There are earlier videos that should have been considered also. This list was mostly 1990's.

Outkast's Ms. Jackson or even Hey Ya maybe should have been considered. They are groundbreaking artists to begin with, but then add in their videos---Gold! And I get Thriller being number 1. When I thought about it back at number 15 in the countdown, it was a no-brainer. It is an amazing video but at the same time, it feels tired too.

Not even an honorable mention for Freak on a Leash?
In an era where MTV was trying to get as far away from heavy metal as possible, this video proved so brilliant that it actually got Korn nominated for Video of the Year. It is responsible for introducing the world to the concept of Bullet Time, beating The Matrix by a month.

I was about to raise all hell if Thriller wasn't on this list. So at least they got that one right. I thought that perhaps Dire Straits Money for Nothing, probably should've made this list as well. Maybe Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love. Pat Benatar's We Belong.
reply

Nah, Vogue and Freedom 90 should have been near the top. For those of us who came of age in the late 80s/early 90s, those were HUGE in the cultural zeitgeist of music! Wheres Phil Collins? And the hot backups in Addicted to Love that was very influential!
reply

Vogue should be number 1. No other video uses the back lighted, high drama that was used in classic movies of the 30s and 40s. It creates a mood unlike any other. Another video, Garth Brooks in the raining bedroom. Both stir emotions unke others.
reply

Rhythm Nation: She wears an iconic outfit along with a group of dancers. Oof on whomever missed that in editing. I've never tried to wear dancers before, but it can't be good for the knees.
And also: Why are the choreographers not credited?

reply

Every Breath You Take by The Police is a masterpiece. With no sophisticated digital visuals, only black and white filming, great camera and editing work, and a wonderful song in the musical sense, at least, it should be an honorable mention
reply

At least four of these videos, including honorable mentions, were directed by Spike Jonze. Maybe we should give more credence to the directors of videos instead of the artists who give up at least a little of their creative authority to them.
reply

I love Jamie Lawsons Wasnt Expecting That. The video is showing a couples whole life together in reverse, from their final years in old age to their first kiss in their early teens and the joys and heartbreaks in between.
reply

Cannot believe that Legs by ZZ Top was not included. It tells a story: good guys and mean guys and has a beginning a middle and an end. Easy to follow and relate to with a great song. What more do you want?
reply

I miss Sowin' in the Seeds of Love by Tears for Fears and I can't get you out of my head by Kylie Minogue, and Freedom by George Michel. I absolutely don't see Bohemian Rhapsoy and November Rain on the list.
reply

I'm so happy that Turn Down For What earned at least an honorable mention, I love the video. I'm a bit disappointed that I Fink You Freeky didn't get a spot, but that's still a solid list. Thanks, MsMojo.

I loved 'Rush' by Paula Abdul, 'Sacrifice' by Elton John, 'This used to be my playground' by Madonna, 'Turn Back Time' by Cher sung on the Battleship Missouri. (Just a few of mine)
reply

That fatoy slim song! I remember seeing it when I was a kid- I was never able to find it, because I never knew what it was called. The fact that its Christopher Walkin is amazing!
reply

I understand choosing Weapon of Choice, but I prefer Right Here Right Now.
I also think Pork And Beans is a better music video than Buddy Holly, but just my personal opinion.

reply

15: 45 - A-Ha. One hit wonder? Are you cray-cray? Have you not heard title theme from James Bond movie 'Living Daylights'? Each and every Jame Bond movie theme is a hit, IMO.
reply

Paula Abdul's Cold Hearted Snake full version will always be in my top ten. And the absolute campiness of Olivia Newton-John's Physical is beyond iconic of the 80s!
reply

Of course, thriller will always be number one! I still remember when it was released. The uproar! It was ahead of its time, and it still hasn't been surpassed!
reply

My top 5 would be Sledgehammer, Money for Nothing (where was this clip), Take on Me, Thriller, and at #1 a 110 minute music video - the Purpler Rain movie
reply

I don't know about Freedom 90 getting honorable mention. It should be on the list. It's peak 90s and cashed in the Supermodel era perfectly.
reply

Where is Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-Lite? That was truly an iconic video and helped usher in all the 60s and 70s-inspired fashions of the 90s
reply

Though depressing compared to the others on this list, I feel Coldplays The Scientist more than deserves at least an honourable mention
reply

Good list. I would include: Money for nothing by Dire Straits, Simply irresistible by Robert Palmer, and Zombie by The Cranberries.
reply

Ridiculous to put Baby one more time there over Freedom. Taylor Swifts video as well. And I'm saying that as an admirer of both women.
reply

Madonna not being top 10 is a crime. And Vogue is nowhere near her best video. Most iconic? Maybe. But in terms of quality, no.
reply

The fact that Money for Nothing by Dire Straits is not in this countdown, in my opinion, totally invalidates the entire countdown.
