I feel like this video is underestimating some teens out there.
As a teen I knew that Regina was being poorly treated even as a preteen.
Heck Cady admits it near the end of the film.
I love Noah and Allie in The Notebook but even I knew that Noah did on that Ferris wheel was beyond creepy.
I never saw Juno but I know for sure that my teen friends would have caught on to Mrs. Loring being more mature and fair compared to Mr. Loring.
Obviously if we ever saw The Breakfast Club we would have found Claire and her boyfriend had for each other.
Those are a few examples.

I've heard this critique of the Notebook and I completely disagree, (A) it's historical when grand gestures by men weren't uncommon and (B) he spends the rest of the summer forcing her to free herself and be independent from a stifling family. Which once again historically is really progressive. Women were expected to wait on their men, ignore their flaws, etc. My Dad showed me a poll from the early 70s entitled do you spank your wife when she needs it. most men said yes and why it's necessary. thats 30-40 years after the Notebook so give Noah a break!

Teen in movies scare the crap out of me it's like lord of the flies I was never like that even as a teenager. The new resident evil was just teeth grinding messy she literally threw something AT her dad not in his general direction she was trying to hurt him and she cussed out total strangers and everyone just acts like nothing happened.
That is some teenagers fantasy I'm glad I didn't know them when I was a teenager that's like a sociopathic response.

To me, Ladybird was about a selfish kid who wanted to prove to the world how big she was but couldn't because of her mother and the moment she leaves town, she realises it's always been her.
Even as a teenager, I always cried at Juno in that scene where Vanesa was playing with her friend's child while Juno observed her. That and when she leaves her that letter that reads I'm in if you are still in. Beautiful.

The couple in Juno has a lot of issues. Yes the husband is immature and isn't ready to take the next step, but the wife is also too pushy for him to be and she never should have made him keep his stuff in only one room. They were both wrong for each other so if you think that the wife was justified in making him keep his stuff in one room because he's immature, that's wrong

People have spent decades criticizing the principal for treating Bender like a delinquent without acknowledging the fact that he is one. Sure, the principal is a dick, but he's not wrong.
Bender's defenders will point to his difficult home life, but everything in the movie indicates that Bender has not done anything to improve his situation, nor does he intend to.

i really hate this type of video. I mean, just for starters, most of the adults I know are idiots, and need these kind of videos to tell them what they didn't notice. Second, why are adults paying close attention to teen movies to notice things? And, third, and most important, what about adults who are also teens? Do they notice these things or not?

All the things you lay out are exactly the things why I could never find ladybird likeable. I guess that has all to do with race, as it was in the case of Clare Fisher in SFU. in a latino family you couldn't get away with acting like a spoiled brat while the family is in shambles. Our behavior wouldn't be quirky or relatable.

On that last one, and I'm not disagreeing with the general analysis, I think it's important that (every)thing can include people when they're contextualized by all possible phenomena. Like, she represents one member of the collection of experiences he's felt denied (which is, dramatically, everything.

You've completely missed the point of John Bender. He wasn't a tough guy he was only pretending to be to hide the pain of the abuse he was being subjected to you by his parents. If you look at the scene with the principal that was the true John Bender the scared boy who just wanted not to be scared anymore

The couple in Juno were mismatched. Wanting to be a parent isn't maturity per se. It's a choice. He didn't want to. they weren't compatible. He was peripheral. Jennifer isn't a great actress and she didn't show capacity for connection and a baby just seemed to make her less boring and feel validated.

I agree with your stance on The Notebook. however, you have to remember that it takes place back in the 1940s, and that's how people acted back then. it doesn't make it right. obviously, nobody should ever use guilt tactics to get the girl or the guy. however, that's just how things were back then.

Yeah teenagers are not confused by Juno the plot of the movie is he's a creepy piece of crap and judo decides that she wants to give the baby to his wife even if he's not in the picture because she's better off. I've only ever watched it once as teenager.

Why is the boombox scene considered to be great? It has no effect on the rest of the film. If it were taken out, the rest would be exactly the same. I heard of that scene years before I watched the film, expecting that she'd run out & jump into his arms.

You forgot Jake Ryan giving his blacked-out drunk girlfriend to Farmer Ted in Sixteen Candles to do whatever he wants as long as he takes her home. that used to be one of my favorite movies until I realized what that scene meant - now I cant watch it.

Noah slamming his hand on his car, angrily demanding that Elle get in, always made me jump, yet he's still presented as being the perfect romantic lead. The fact that he drives her to a private area, rather than her house, makes it even creepier.

I remember watching The Notebook for the first time after the hype train had died down a little and I found nothing romantic about their relationship. It felt like they overdramatized the passion so much that it came off as hostile.

surprised #1 wasn't the controlling, abusive, manipulative relationship between bella and edward in the entire twilight saga. at one point he literally rips the engine out of her car to stop her from seeing her friend.

The point of Mean Girls is that Cady becomes a Plastic. That she becomes as bad as Regina. Then the whole school loses it and everybody grows as people. Even Regina is seen at the end, as an equal to the other girls.

Thanks for pointing out how toxic Bender and Claire's eventual relationship is. Even Molly Ringwald pointed out how disturbing his behaviour is now, but the film treats it as annoying, but harmless.

Cameron really had inner issues where his dad was concerned
I have never even seen Say Anything. I have the DVD, but still hasn't watched it. Seems more romantic than stalker to me & I'm 54

When a mother and a daughter watch The Notebook, the mother is like.
I don't get it. What people see in this Noah? There's nothing good about him.

Rewatching Juno as an adult really proved to me that I've grown up. There were so many red flags that I just didn't see when I first watched that movie

Even young kids can easily see that Cameron is very unhappy. You don't need to know what specific conditions he has to enjoy Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

A lot of these aren't just teen vs adult viewpoints but how overall society has changed viewpoints on issues such as harassment, consent, etc.

These movies are kinda overrated because I wouldnt want kids to take these tropes away as romantic because thats not how it works in real life.
