These Broadway songs never fail to make us ugly cry. For this list, well be looking at numbers we think are most likely to get the waterworks going. Our countdown includes Matilda the Musical, Finding Neverland, Waitress, and more! Which of these songs made YOU cry the hardest?

For me, its Its Hard to Speak My Heart from Parade or Barber and His Wife (Reprise) from Sweeney Todd.
For Its Hard to Speak My Heart, seeing Leo desperately beg for someone to so much as listen to him, and partially beg himself to be able to say something is just painful.
For Barber and His Wife (Reprise, Sweeney is mourning his wife, who he unknowingly killed, and is so broken that when Toby comes at him with a razor, he pulls down his collar and doesnt even try to fight back, and it hits like a truck.

All I Ask of You (Reprise) sung by the Phantom and the last final moments in Phantom Of The Opera when Erik says goodbye to Christine before destroying his lair, singing Its over now the music of the night and going into hiding has always made me cry. I would also recommend adding the song Prayer from Come From Away on here; all the different religious prayers and chants in harmony is something beautiful to hear.

#1 and #2 get me every time. My child, before her transition, played Angel in high school. Having to know the character, my daughter played, was being sung about at a funeral. Destroyed! And, while she was transitioning, we saw KinkyBoots I will never listen to that song without crying and remembering the conversation I had with her after the song was over. Shes 25 and absolutely fabulous.

There were so many people in the audience audibly weeping during many of the songs in the Broadway show Dear Evan Hansen! At the end of the show when Evan's mom performs, So Big So Small, I just let the tears fall because I had already given my tissues away to the lady sitting next to me. So Big/ So Small definitely makes my list of tearjerker theater songs!

That scene in Rent at Angel's funeral is definitely emotional - the movie didn't hold up to the musical but that one scene was done beautifully. Also Without You - the movie montage was just incredible. I think there are a few from Miss Saigon that should've made it on here, and really so many others from Les Mis would've fit as well

These were good choices. But there were SO many missing. Home from The Wiz, Children Will Listen - Into The Woods, Make Our Garden Grow - Candide, Finding Wonderland - Wonderland. Granted, it's all so subjective. But there truly are so many others that deserve to be on this list. Thank you to all the composers who have given us these gifts.

There are musical songs that make me cry more, but a memorable moment was when I saw the Dear Evan Hansen tour in my city with my father. I held back my tears during Words Fail, but I lost it and burst into tears during So Big/So Small. I think that what I will always remember is turning to face my father, and he was in tears, too.

The fact that you have some pretty sketchy choices in this list, but dont have Id give my life for you from Miss Saigon shows just how badly this list was formed. More than a third of these songs are not good enough to be on this list and you left so many major ones out its obvious this is merely click bait.

Any song from Les Miserables- i start crying at 'I Dreamed A Dream' and pretty much don't stop until I'm on my way home after the performance. 'I'll Cover You' from Rent makes me blub as well, and 'You'll Never Walk Alone' although I will admit that one is more football-related than musical theatre!

It's Quiet Uptown should have been number 1. I also want to say how stoked I was to see Some Things Are Meant To Be from Little Women sneaking up here in the HMs. I saw this show when it came out and it will forever have a place in my heart and mind. It wrecked me and the harmonies are to die for.
reply

I always say that I never cried for something like I did for Falsettos. It's just, it's the most human musical I've seen and it makes you feel so involved in the relationships between the characters that it destroys you even more than you'd think at the end

Neverland Reprised killed me when I saw the show live! I was not prepared and cried so hard! You Will Be Found still makes me cry. She Use To Be Mine hits so hard and was a song I related to when I went through my last break up before I met my husband!

Kindergarten Boyfriend and Life Boat from Heathers. Most of Act 2 of Titanic but the Finale In Every Age / Godspeed, Titanic (Reprise. Shadowland and Endless Nights from The Lion King. There are probably more but all these came to mind.
reply

Im a tad disappointed Santa Fe (reprise) from Newsies didnt make the cut. Even just in the honorable mentions.
The Little Women number did make my mom ugly cry when we saw the musical because Beth reminded her of one of my sisters.

Can you have some indexing here with the tracks, time they start, songs, performers?
Much easier to navigate and most other sites do this.
I'm here so far down the list?
May I ask, where do you take your statistics from?

Somethings Missing! My new favorite show is Come From Away! I was a brand new Army officer stationed in the Military District of Washington on 9/11. EVERYTHING changed that day! This song is so spot on to that feeling!
reply

I remember hearing make them hear you for the first time at rehearsals for our showcase that was the day before. I was 13 and it was the number before our closing number and I was just bawling my eyes out in the wings
reply

The thing that has always gotten me about I'll Cover You Reprise is that it's a duet being sung by one person, and then when he turns around, he sees that the rest of his family is there to cover Angel's absent voice.
reply

Bring Him Home (Les Miserables, It's Quiet Uptown, Burn (Hamilton) Memory (Cats, I'll Cover You, Without You (RENT, Children Will Listen ( Into the Woods, and For Good (Wicked. Too many to count.
reply

You will not touch him/ Id give my life for you from the Tony Awards. No tears, just silence. Eva Noblezadas cry give me chills like Ive never had before. Amazing vocal talent and acting
reply

The fact that What's Next/How This Ends or I Don't Need a Roof from Big Fish isn't on here blows my mind. No matter how many times I watch, I am SOBBING during Edward's final song.
reply

I didn't care what was on the list as long as I'll Cover You Reprise was number one!
I was in this show and EVERYONE From snac bar to lights to orchestra was ugly crying!

reply

Wait for Me from Hadestown always makes me cry. Not only because of how desperate and heartbroken Orpheus sounds, but (being a Greek Mythology buff) I also know he is going to fail.
reply

Everybody's Talking About Jamie should get a Broadway run because He's My Boy hurt so much to see and hear onstage. Bianca Del Rio is the one and only, the ultimate Loco Chanelle.
reply

My girlfriend was on a school production of In The Heights and I watched it 6 times in a row, there was not a single time I didn't cry to Alabanza! Just like Everything I Know!
reply

Angel is my favorite character in Rent. It doesn't matter that I know he dies. It tears me up every time I see a production. I cry through three songs. I saw it six times.
reply

Two that always get me, which idk if they would be on the list but Honorable mention would have been good, are Edelweiss from The Sound of Music and Memory from Cats
reply

Bui Doi from Miss Saigon gets me every time. So haunting, so painful the story of those poor children.
And you gotta die sometime from Falsettos is also moving
