For this list, I would have to say a few words for every entry:
10: It's their worst fears come true for a what-if event
9: We know Smudger wasn't the nicest engine around, but did he deserve such a fate like that?
8: Thomas wasn't going to finish the whole story in a one episode, he only told half of it.
7: To be fair, Toby had to be convincing enough, or Percy's trick would have backfired.
6: Let's just say, Ringo might have went a little bit overboard with Diesel's performance in that scene.
5: Sure, being pulled apart like that is gruesome, but Oliver had to teach the trucks something they won't forget. No pun intended.
4: I have to agree with the description here, was it really necessary?
3: You know the old saying, Let the punishment fit the crime? Well, that's what happened to him considering how he treated the twins anyway.
2: One thing that came out of this episode, is how man can mess with nature, and nature returning the favour in cruel, unexpected ways.
1: Henry should've been so selfish, the Fat Controller didn't have to isolate him in the tunnel. I think this punishment was a little bit overkill.

TBH, I think this list is a massive overreaction. I grew up in the early 90s with the classic Ringo Starr Thomas the Tank Engine, and didnt really find any of it cruel of traumatising as a child. If anything, I would argue that tales such as Percys Ghost, Pop Goes The Diesel and Henry getting blocked in a tunnel helped make the show distinctive and fun. None of these sequences, to me at least, seem inappropriate as far as children are concerned. I would argue that such stories simply captured the childrena attention and engagement. And, within reason, you want stories and situations to provoke and challenge kids. Thats better than mollycoddling them.

As a Thomas fan, I can tell you some false things said in this video.
1. In Number 7, you said that Percy was seriously injured. He literally just hit a lime cart. Thats nothing compared to some other accidents in the show.
2. Ringo Starr was just trying to do good narration. He likely wasnt trying to make those noises.
3. Oliver didnt try to pull Scruffey apart, it was an accident.
4. The Spiteful Brakevan likely didnt die. He was probably fixed like Scruffey.
5. Boulder is not really alive, its probably Rustys imagination.

The danger theme. Whenever you heard a certain piece of music in the second season, you knew that a crash was inevitable, even if it was 10 seconds away. So it was like theyd already crashed before it happened. Theres one bit when the music starts as soon as Percy starts moving and it feels like the music is moving him, and Percy is very much aware judging from his face

It may be horrifying But lot of the original run of episodes in the first few seasons were based off the Audrey books, which themselves were based off of reality on the real railroad. It wasnt uncommon to have cars ripped apart, smashed together, locomotives used as stationary steam boilers for industrial/railroad plants/shops/factories.
reply

As a longtime Thomas fan, Stepney Gets Lost scared me for a long time just based on the fact that he was almost scrapped and we saw the huge claw. Escape and Rusty to the Rescue are also good at displaying this fear of scrap too as this is literally engine death, but I felt that SGL did it the best. Gave me chills as a kid.

Thomas was - and for my severely autistic 21 year old brother, still is - a huge part of my life. Never found anything that creepy about it. Well, at least until I saw the Dream Song. Also, the British narrators are overrated. Carlin and Alec Baldwin were the goats. The show just went downhill after season 7

Finally, a video about Henrys tunnel that tells us that Henry is let out. The original UK version is darker because in the original story, Henry really wasnt going to be let out. Until Wilbert Awdry had to make the change, the TV version was toned down in the US back in 1989 when Shining Time Station first aired.

I was 11 when I first saw Calling All Engines. I was so sad and scared when I saw what happened to James, Gordon, Edward and Percy. That was comparable to the incinerator scene in Toy Story 3 and the Zombie Iron Man scene in Spider Man Far From Home. That was the most traumatic scene I ever saw in Thomas.
reply

Thomas is, and will always be an important part of my life. When I was younger though, a lot of the Season 5 did scare me a bit. Also, I have to give you credit for actually mentioning that Henry got let out of the tunnel in the next episode, which non of those clickbait articles do.
reply

I love watching Shining time station and of course have the VHS of Thomas and his friends. the only thing I remember raising a eyebrow was in a Thomas book where it show's Henry inside the tunnel bricked. but never saw the episode or any of these episodes when I was a kid.
reply

Thonas is one of my favorite shows, even if I'm nearly an adult. I remember being scared ASF due to many of these scenes as a kid. Nowadays, it's no longer scary. Let's take the time to appreciate Thomas for being realistic with it's target audience and not sugarcoating everything.
reply

You know being a black kid growing up watching Thomas the tank engine I couldn't help but feel that sometimes Sir topham hatt was acting like a slave slave owner and the train engines were slaves which anytime they acted up they were severely punished
reply

So glad you covered something like this. Ive been a fan since I was 3 years old but the fact that the show covers topics like this is what makes me enjoy it more. Kids need to confront harsh realities whether they like it or not. Great work.
reply

This is why i have always love the original Thomas & Friends TV series.
It really shows how cruel, harsh, depressing and messed up reality can really be.
P. S: Don't and Never be like Diesel,
He's toxic and he's the worst.

reply

dunno why but when i was little maybe like 2 or 3 or smh every single characters faces
starting from thomas all the way into smudger
scared me
and i described their faces as their faces are black when its supposed to be grey

reply

All I have to say about 3 is that the Brake Van's destruction is one of three brutal deaths 1986 animations
(The other two are Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective, and Lt. Paptimus Scirocco from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam)

reply

The US release had the narrator say he would come out when he was ready, so it wasn't as traumatizing; rather I did the same thing to my Henry Brio when I was a kid. That said, James Goes Buzz Buzz freaked me out the most.
reply

Im so glad people are bringing this show back in its classic form and recognizing it as the masterpiece it is. Ive been a tankie for years, Thomas will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for making this video!
reply

I dont get why everyone thinks Henry didnt deserve his punishment. Imagine if you had to wait on the main line for about 30 minutes just because of an engines selfish reasons. Those people had places to get to.
reply

The episode that traumatised me the most as a kid was Toby and the Flood.
It gave me anxiety when Toby was stuck in the river going straight to the waterfall. I thought he was going to die.

reply

I remember a lot this, I watched this all the time when I was really little on vhs tapes my mom bought me all kind of Thomas the train toys, this must be why I loved courage the cowardly dog
reply

The opening scene of Ghost Train (or Percy's Ghostly Trick) always scared me as a kid
And S. C Ruffey's fate is far worse in the Railway Series, he gets scrapped instead of being repaired

reply

Thomas the tank engine was never really that terrifying for me until I realized the cruel irony of what happened to the spiteful brakevan, Douglas shouldve been charged with murder
reply

The opening scene in the ghost episode where the ghost is crossing the bridge by the windmill used to absolutely terrify me as a child. Still uneasy now - and I'm 32!
reply

I watched the original show when i was a kid and i can say none of thses scenes really scared me. However thats just me and i cant say the same for anymore else.
reply

Those ten times were every episode.
I was so terrified of it as a kid.
I remember whenever I watched this specific scene I would have the same scene

reply

Almost all of the stories were in the Reverend Wilbert Awdry's Railway Series books. Britt Allcroft, David Mitton and co. simply turned it into a TV series.
reply

6: 15
At least in the TV Series he's put back together, in the Railway Series Story that inspired the episode, Scruffy was scrapped right then and there.

reply

I was a huge Thomas kid with all the train sets and VHS tapes, but I was 100% traumatized by the face on that boulder. It gave me nightmares for years!
