Today we're breaking down. The newly released first look at the upcoming wicked movie Part one. If you're unfamiliar with the musical, there will be spoilers ahead. Don't be afraid. I'm not afraid. It's the wizard who should be afraid of me. Number five. A glimpse into Oz. Okay, who didn't squeal at that striking opening shot of Alphaba-smoking witch's hat. It's a strong start, but what could it mean? The best way to bring folks together? Something has, is to give him a real good enemy. Fans of the musical, or even the Wizard of Oz. Know that the character has an unfortunate encounter with a bucket of water. So, could this be a foretelling of the film's conclusion? We also get glimpses of the elaborate and impressive costumes that are certainly reminiscent of the show, but showcase more intricate details beyond what the stage could fully reveal. We follow a mysterious figure riding horseback across a fantastical OZ landscape and catch a first peak at AlphaBA, famous flying monkey, possibly chisty, crashing out of a window. The train journey to Oz gives us a whirlwind tour of the bustling Emerald city. Ariana Grande's Glenda Fierro's Wedding Perhaps teasing hints of one short day. Every, as you look in this city, there's something exis There's also a gorgeous shot of Ariana grande's Glenda, resting her head on AlphaBA shoulder in a poppy field. It feels like a nostalgic nod to the 1939 film. We also couldn't talk about the aian settings without discussing what appears to be a shot from Glenda's wedding. Yes, you heard that, right? Fans of the musical know that Glenda and Fierro's engagement comes as quite a surprise to the woodby groom, and they actually never make it down the aisle, is, I admit, the tiniest fit. Un likee I anticipated yet. In the trailer, we see glinda in what looks like a pink cave, seemingly wearing a wedding gown, while holding a pink bouquet. She's also surrounded by yellow butterflies, and we guess wedding guests. Some see yellow butterflies as symbols of transformation, rebirth, and hope. So, perhaps this frame isn't exactly what it seems, not simply pause getting your dreams. It's strange, but it seems a little, well-complicated. Number four, storyline and plot points. We know that the upcoming wicked movie is split into two parts. However, how it's being divided is still up for speculation. In the trailer. We See Alphaba And Glenda Arrive At Shiz University We see Alphaba and Glenda arrive at Shiz university and meet each other for the first time. You're green. I am. There's also that unforgettable moment at the Ozdust ball room, where Alphaba first ons her iconic hat. You know, the one, glenda, gifts her as a prank. In the show, it seems like this retelling will dig deeper into Alphaba training sessions with Madam Moral, who's played by Michelle. Yo. We see the student teacher dynamic in action with the head mistress, offering AlphaBA some advice on how to wield her powers. Once you learn to harness your emotions, the sky, the liit, we also see her teach Alphaba what appears to be a levitation spell, which may for shadow, A significant turning point later in the movie. Something just takes over me. And when it does bad things happen, as we briefly mentioned before, it looks like we're in for a trip to the Emerald city with our iconic duo. We can't wait to see how they bring the showstopper one short day to life on the silver screen. Did you also spot Dorothy Toto in the gang? Dorothy's Adventures In The Music, So We're Intrigued By If In the music, dorothy's adventures mostly take place offstage, so we're intrigued to see if and how they might expand her role in the movie and connect the two stories. Even more. Bring to me. The trailer wraps up with scenes of Alphaba stepping into her power, including that iconic-defying gravity ending, where Madame moral glinda and others watch her take flight, since the number serves as the act-one finale in the musical, many have wondered if it will do the same for part one of the movie. Number-three, character introductions back in April 2023. The movies director John Mchu gave us our first glimpse of Cynthia, arivo as Alphaba and Ariana Grande as Glenda. Okay, they were a bit distant and in dim lighting, but it still got us all kinds of excited. Now, the trailer shows us some of their co-stars. The best way to bring folks together. Something has Chang, is to give him a real good enemy. Alphaba And Glenda Meet In Ozdust Ballroom It kicks off with Jeff Goldblum, who plays the wizard in voiceover. And later we catch quick glimpses of him in character too. Michelle-YO, looks fierce as Madam Moral. In the best way, of course, were we expecting anything else in a blink. An, you'll miss it. Moment when Alphaba and Glenda first meet you can spot SNL's Bowen Yang, who plays Glenda's friend, fanny on one side of her. Meanwhile, harlot's actor, bronwin James, who plays another friend called Shenen, stands, on her other side. You'll recognize these names. If you've read Gregory Maguire's novel, something, not the same, something just takes over me. Also, keep an eye out for AlphaBA, sister, nessarose, at the Ozdust Ballroom. She's played by Marissa B, predominantly a stage actor who like her character uses a wheelchair standing just behind her, is Ethan Slater, best known for the SpongeboB Squarepants, the Broadway musical who's playing Bach. Glenda Kayala's Scarlett Dresses Are Here To Look At Now, you'll really want to pay close attention here, because at around the 29 second mark, jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton fame appears as Fiero, another shiz student who starts out shallow and carefree, but gains depth through his relationship with Alphaba Kayala, settle from the greatest showman, will play a new character named Miss Cotle. Though not spotted in this trailer, we hope to see her in the next one, anding to theat number two iconic references. Let's talk about Glenda's wardrobe. The trailer gives us a glimpse of several fabulous looks, but we want to focus on that pink dress. Glenda's bubble entrance in the musical is iconic, and Grande's dress during the scene seems to nod to both the stage shows gown and Billy Burke's attire from the 1939 movie. But of course, it has been glind toied in its own unique way. It's good to see you, isn't it? Remember, the shot of AlphaB and Glenda in the poppy field. Another frame shows four individuals dashing through rows of flowers, which reminds us of this moment from the MGM Classic. Oh, come on, then. What are we waiting for? Nothing. Let's hurry. Yes, let's run.come on.come on. Hurry. Some say this could be part of the opening number, with the figures rushing to spread the good news about the witch's death. The Wizard Of Oz: The Ruby Shoes You Need To Know Now about those ruby shoes, give me back my slippers. I'm the only one that knows how to use them. They're no use to you. Give them back to me, give them back. Keep tight inside of them. Their magic must be very powerful or she wouldn't want them so badly. If you can take your eyes off the adorable toto for a second, you'll see that there's silver in this version. Also, where can we get a pair? Despite Judy garland's ruby pair being world-famous, both Lfrank BALms the Wizard of Oz. And maguire's 1995 novel described the shoes as silver. They also lead us to another iconic movie scene, where Dorothy and her pals, let's pause to appreciate that, impressively realistic, cowardly, lion first, meet the wizard. Or rather the version of himself, he presents to the world. I am our, the great and powerful. Who are you? While the 1939 projection was groundbreaking for its time, this wizard has a higher tech update, more aligned with the stage, shows technology. Oh, and let's not forget, the flying Monkeys. They might have a big ger role in Wicked than in the Wizard of Oz. Their blue wings seem to be inspired by their onstage counterparts. It's the wizard who should be afraid of me. Anyone who has seen the show, or perhaps caught Adena Manzel in Kristen Chen's performance at the 2004 Tony Awards will'll recognize it as the lead into, to the iconic number. Something has changed within me. Something is not the same. Our tingles barely have a moment to subside before they hit us with AO's take on, perhaps one of the most famous riffs in modern musical history. That riff will replay in our minds until Thanksgiving 2024 when part one of wicked is currently slated to be released. The wizard will see you.

Okay. I don't want to make any pre-screening judgements but there are definitely some things I would've done differently, like I would've made it all one movie with an intermission for theatrical release only. I think Cynthia Erivo is super talented, but I don't know if she's the right one for Elphaba. I think she should've done The Color Purple instead of Fantasia, and I know Idina Menzel is 52 but I still would've had her as Elphaba with makeup and visual effects de-aging her like Sigourney Weaver in Avatar: The Way of Water. I feel the dame way about Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey and Michelle Yeoh, I would've done Amanda Seyfried as Glinda, Aaron Tveit as Fiyero and Meryl Streep as Madame Morrible. I also would've included Kristen Chenoweth and Joel Grey in the cast. Everyone can disagree but be respectful to me please, I'm just stating my opinion.

The fact that this is in two parts is slightly troubling to me because y'all the show itself is two and a half hours so are we going to do an act one act two type of deal Are we adding scenes that aren't in the show I have so many questions and I can already tell you what they're going to do at the end, it's going to go exactly like this defying gravity beautifully sung as Cynthia flies to the air as she hits the ahhh ahh ah ah! With the huge but not abrupt stop that cuts to black and then the credits roll. I'm so nervous about this. I really hope they don't screw this up because the CGI is already giving me Cats vibes.

My sister took me to see the show last year and it was fabulous!
I was completely blown away by this preview. I didn't quite recognize it at first and then didn't dare to expect it.
It looks really great! I'm disappointed that it'll be a two-parter, but that typically means that they're taking extra care with the story and the other details so I'll concede to that.
I didn't really think about Dorothy and her group, but I did recognize the silver slippers. Red showed up much better using that new Technicolor process.

1) Am I the ONLY one who saw the preview and was all OMG MICHELLE YEOH AS MADAME MORRIBLE! Especially the suck it up buttercup you'd better do what I say just smile and wave where you realize just who really IS running Oz.
2) Was it me, or did it look like they used CGI with the closeup for Elphaba's hands to make them bigger and kinda gnarly I REALLY hope they're not doing that. the whole POINT of Elphaba is that she's NORMAL in every other way - just green: (

I enjoyed the book. I saw the play on Broadway. I was looking forward to the movie until I found out Ariana Grande was cast as Glinda. She is a good singer, but I think her character sucks. I can’t get over her licking an entire tray of donuts at a family-run donut shop. She thought she was so funny. Thank goodness a camera caught her. There have been so many other incidents of her poor behavior. I think she is disgusting and cruel.

I do hope they do touch upon the discrimination and racism from the show. And Mr. Dillamond( hope I’m spelling that right) holds a one of the major key points to the story.
But since the movie will be inspired by the musical, I have a feeling that it won’t be a flashback and more interesting scenes.
My will be beating if they stay loyal to the musical.

I miss Idina's delivery. I have seen. ahem legal versions of the OBC doing the show so many times. I am so used to it, it's going to be hard to adjust. Idina is very in your face and Elphaba is very unashamed, sarcastic, brash and so deeply intense. Where the new Elphaba seems a lot more calm. I'm sure i'll get used to it, it's just going to take some time.

First of all it looks visually gorgeous! Secondly I’ve wanted this more than any other stage to screen adaptation since Wicked made me fall in love with musical theatre! I’m reserving my judgement on everything else until November. Lastly I’m surprised about the shot of the Silver Slippers and Toto!

i’ll be the first to admit(probably not first) but i was honestly really disappointed when i heard Ariana was going to be Glinda, however she looks truly amazing and absolutely gorgeous i am so excited to see the final product later this year. Everything about this trailer is amazing

I can’t wait to see this movie and the come back of Dorothy and the gang with what their parts will play into the story. I love the original wizard of Oz so much and have seen over a thousand times so I can’t wait to see wicked the movie musical
reply

It’s a clue in to Elphie’s fate in the novel. I’ve never had the good fortune of seeing the original stage production. Not just for Idina and Kristen, but I know I’ll never have another opportunity to see Joel Grey perform live again.

I know a lot of times, scenes from the trailer never make it into the finished movie. So I am really trying not to prejudge the movie and base my opinion based solely on this one trailer. But man, it sure looks good so far!
reply

Huh I’ve never read the Wizard Of Oz books just seen the OG movie and some other remakes but I never knew the slippers were originally silver. Even in the Wiz Dorothy’s slippers were silver. That’s awesome!

Thoughts are nothing to describe how much I’m excited for this. I might be an adult, I love being excited and as a major fan, I’m definitely looking forward to the movie that’s going to Defy Gravity
reply

I wish the producers didn’t use that riff at the end. Cynthia’s talent is WAY better than that! They did her dirty. They should’ve used a cleaner riff than the one we hear from the teaser.
reply

As much as I love the music, I really wish they were doing an adaptation of the book instead. They had to strip out a lot of story for the Broadway version, and compressed a lot of characters.
reply

Cynthia Evyrio (The Color Purple, Ethan Slater (SpongeBob Musical, Ariana Grande (Victorious, Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) has me TOTALLY excited for this
reply

I'm really looking forward to this. Wicked is one of my favorite musicals of all time, and it's about time it got a film adaptation. Arianna Grande looks great in it.
