I turned 6 in June of 1986. It was the first full year I started listening to top 40 radio and music videos. My 3 favorite songs of this year:
Sweet Freedom - Michael McDonald
Sweet Love - Anita Baker
Something About You - Level 42

To me 90's and back in time has the music of memories as in the 2000's has some great sings too, as im still in a different time zone in this time to the music i love and cherish, i have no doubt i may discover new songs in the future

THANK YOU! There's something about you was in my head since last weekend and I couldn't remember the name or any of the exact lyrics, all I knew that it was an 80s song and I could hum the bridge, now I got it all!
reply

ah, 1986. 'Life in a Northern Town' by Dream Acadamy is one of my favorite songs ever but on the flip side 'Friends and Lovers' Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring (Robin Thicke's mom) is my most hated song.

1986 was one of my favorite years- period. So many good memories and the music was great. Thanks for Falco at the end. I was in Vienna when he died and his loss was definitely felt there.
reply

Such a great year of music! There are a small handful of songs here that I’d be blessed to NEVER hear again (didn’t like them in the first place, but otherwise, MAJOR feels!
reply

Of all these my favourite is West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys. Followed by Stand by me
Falco who was showcased at the end of the video died age 40 in a motor vehicle accident

reply

Falco the ONLY Continental European (non-UK) artist to hit the US Top 10. That's all you need to know about what music was playing on US radio and on MTV during the 1980's.
reply

Once again, another trip down memory lane! That year started with Challenger, ended with my 13th birthday; 6-7th grade; Top Gun, Miami Vice, Little League, and lots of MTV!
reply

i just commented on top 150 of 1983 'absolutely astonishing', and you gotta love abba and british bands, but omg, this is just incredible the american SONGS of 1986
reply

More proof that the 1980s was the best decade for music. So many good songs came out in 1986 and I'm sure there were a lot more that didn't make this list.
reply

As a Genesis and Phil Collins fan, it's so wonderful to watch these mid-80s compilation of hits- Collins and Genesis utterly dominated for most of the decade.
reply

Damn, looking at these straight up bangers, I can see why my timeless, eternal thetan/spirit was lured back into another human incarnation around 1986!
reply

Why didn’t you like these two songs a little more They both stalled at No. 11: A Love Bizarre (Sheila E) and I’ll Be Over You (Toto)
reply

Such funny schmaltz to hear again! That year I was still working in a restaurant and bar so many of these were on the jukebox! Haha!
reply

I was 15 in 1986.
Gotta be honest -- We are all a little embarrassed for Don Johnson.
Because that song was just. ugh.

reply

Wow, for me, the end of 8th Grade/beginning of 9th Grade wrapped up in one video! Loved the clip of Falco at the end. R. I. P.
reply

Beautiful! 1986 was my favorite year in music of the 80s along with 1984. Top years for me in a glorious decade in music.
reply

What a year. I was 10 years old in 1986 with two teenage sisters. Our house was filled with this music all day and night.
reply

9x% cool tunes! Can’t decide what was better: 1985 or 1986
One thing is for sure: Falco was fabulous and timeless

reply

Can you tag a list with these songs Fantastic work, but short clips, I have to keep pausing and writing down artist/song
reply

I'm surprised about so many songs I thought were in different years. Example: Conga has always been a 1984 song for me.
reply

Kyrie, Manic Monday and Walk Of Life, my big 1986 favorites! So many great songs and artists that year.
reply

There's so much variety in styles! I think we lost that over the years. Pretty much everything was mainstream.
reply

What a wonderful collection of songs! 1986 is one of the best year ever for music! Thanks for the video!
reply

Wait was that short guy from Dukes of Hazzard show that played the police boss in Billy Ocean video
