Dog Rescued From Puppy Mill Learns What It Is To Be Loved Foster Diaries When we lost our lab of 11 yrs to cancer it was devastating. Our children were 4 and 2 when we brought him home. They were shattered and we were heartbroken. We swore to never have another dog as the pain was something we didnt think we could bear again. About 3 mos in our boys came to us and told us that our house didnt feel like home anymore. We had noticed also, it was quiet and kinda cold feeling. What I hadnt told them was I had been having dreams where I had a snow white/cream Lab named Gus. I was literally dreaming of having this new dog every night. A week later we found a litter about an hour from our house. When we arrived there was a snow white puppy left and we were extatic. The only catch was this little guy was unseperable from his brother. They did everything together and were joined at the hip. We did some financial wrangling and somehow came home with not 1 but 2 lab puppies. Its a little crazy at home now with Gus and Gibson (Gibby) but man it feels wonderful to have our house full and warm and feeling like home again. Gus and Gibbys Labrador adventures!

People, if you're 100% set on getting a particular dog, DO NOT get them from a pet store without some serious research as many come from mills.
That said, I personally owned labs from some great kind breeders, with a mama dog greeting me. These labs ended up being near perfect. Never growled at a human once and house trained within a week or 2.
I saw a lab at a pet store and asked to spend some time. This poor animal was NOTHING like my labs from a reputable breeder. It was neurotic, would barely let you touch them, and would growl. It was obvious this animal had a poor start to life.
My next dog will come from a shelter or rescue, at the least. There are too many good dogs out there. If your dead set in getting a purebred, get one from a reputable kind breeder who has the mom to meet on sight. Also, educate yourself about the breed. It will make you and your pet live a more happy life.

Puppy mills are so evil as are the so called people who run them. They should get a minimum of 10 years in prison. Only severe punishment will stop this disgusting practice. Dogs are human. I don’t care what anyone says. And to put them thru this is criminal. Dogs feel emotional pain just like us. Thank you to those who take the time these poor dogs need. Dogs deserve to know what it is to be loved and be a dog.

We rescued our chocolate lab, Paco, from a puppy mill as well. Charlie Brown reminds me of Paco so much. For the first year or so Paco would snap at us while petting him, so we had to be very careful. We continued to show him nothing but love, and it turned out to be an awesome 13 years. We miss Paco so much.

I had a lab for 15 yrs. he truly was my best friend, I got him in 1989 and met my wife in 89'. I lost my wife to Myeloma in 2001, I lost Bubba in 2004. he taught me labs make your heart grow. Good luck/luv with Charlie Brown.

Could it be he was pancaking during the walks, because he got sore They're caged up all the time in those puppy mills, so I would imagine that walking makes them tender. They perk up as they build up their muscles.

We rescued a chocolate lab from a puppy mill before as well. Damn I miss Chloe. Was so freaking great watching this and seeing him open up. The 2: 20 mark had me tearing up. Positive vibes to all!

I may be extreme here but the people with puppy mills need to be put in the cage these animals are put in then they may learn from that

I had a similar story with my choco. she was so timid and would only come to me. but now she's the greatest family dog a guy could ever ask for

I’m so glad you kept him He needed a steady home. I feel like having to go to another family would have broken his heart even more.
reply

So glad you kept Charlie Brown. To move to another home even after a few months would have just been another trauma to him.

Sooo many people should look at this and realize that your past is just that. your past. Let others (or just yourself) move on.

In this fast changing world and all it’s madness it’s beautiful to see a dog being loved for the first time, thank you.
