My mom once found a starving, half-dead, weak orange cat on her way home. She took him to the vet and, after a few days, adopted it. We didn't let him go in the house in case he would grow too attached, but he could always rest in the corridor. After a month or so, he was already of normal weight and a bit later he found an unknown to us new home.

When they showed that dog, I've never gone from completely fine to full out ugly crying so fast in my life! I'm so glad he made it. If only we could replace evil people with these ones, our planet would thrive.
