Our dog Skylee, a 5 year old mini dachshund, had surgery for a ruptured disc back in May. The doctor said she had a 50% chance to walk again. I don't blame the people for giving Manny up. If you don't have the means to help your dog but someone else does I don't see a problem with giving your buddy to someone how can save them. The surgery is not cheap and since we had the money we did it.
We had to keep Skylee in a 4ftx4ft area or in a baby carriage for about three weeks, We had to help her pee every 3 or 4 hours for about a week. My wife cried when Skylee got on her hind legs to walk. She walks like a drunken sailor but she is improving every day. it was worth every penny. It will take about 3 months for her to be able to go around the house like she used to. And if she still has a little wobble in her walk it wont bother me one little bit.
The people who help handicap dogs/cats so that they can be adopted are a blessing.

Aww, I did something similar for a ferret about ten years ago. I took that little guy in because he was paralyzed after an attack from another animal of the previous owner. Was bitten in the neck and shaken, because he was just a baby and cried for his mom all day. The care for him was pretty extensive and the owner was overwhelmed with it. He could not walk at all, the vet didn't even know if he would survive. Teddy did pretty good for the rest of his life and lived happily with other ferret friends and me. Just liftet his head a little tilted and walked clumsily.

Oh goodness. My dachshund mix developed disc disease at age 8 in her neck. Her limbs weren't affected, but she was in incredible pain. I am so thankful I was able to afford her surgery, because she is now a happy 11. 5 year old monster who rules the roost. And we have ramps EVERYWHERE now. I'm so glad Manny is getting care, and thankful for the angels who support dogs like this. And I'm sad for his first family who couldn't afford his care, be it due to time or money. Dachshund owners everywhere, get insurance or start setting aside money.

Golly that had to be so sad, so hard for Manny not understanding what he did, but then this absolutely beautiful Angel stepped in and gave him a chance and now look at him go
If there were more people that are willing to step up and Help the less fortunate maybe animal abuse wouldn't be so bad! Just a thought

My own dachshund BUSTER were paralyzed at age 10 years old, and I trained him every single minute, day by day for whole 3 months, and he started to walk. He is 16 years now, doing GREAT not only walk, but still runs and plays with toys

I have a Chiweenie, and she has the long body of the Daschund. Although she's 10, I have stairs to help her get up into bed, because Daschund's are prone to back injuries anyway, because of their length plus short stature.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just adopt a dog whose life you impact so strongly (in a wonderful way, of course. Wouldn't it be harder on both of them to transition him to a new person all over again
reply

do you think the original family would want him back now that he’s better i understand they gave him up because they just couldn’t afford the medical expense i assume that was a very hard decision for them
reply

You have a golden heart helping Manny learning to walk again! I hope Manny will find a loving home who will adopt him and care for him.
reply

Go Manny! What an adorable little inspiration for us all. He’s showing us how to get up, do our best, and never give up.
