This makes me think of my mom and the poodle Jake. I have partial custody of my big sister’s standard poodle bc I spent the first 6 yrs of his life with him. He really bonded to me and my sister (even tho he was supposed to be my nieces dog) Our mom loved animals, but from a distance. She didn’t need to have a personal bond with them. She enjoyed watching wildlife videos or videos on the history and biology of domesticated animals. She always said the way I was about animals, she was about babies. (For the record I love babies too, I just feel the same way about animals) When Jake was adopted he was the kind of dog who is more of a one person dog. It seemed to be hard on him to have to split his attn between my sister upstairs and me downstairs (it got easier when I moved out, at my house he’s my dog, at my sister’s he’s her dog. So it was odd he was so interested in our mom bc she didn’t seek out his attn. If she was in the kitchen she’d give him a bite of cheese, but other than that she didn’t try and win his affection. But he started busting into her room to say hi. Then when I moved to my own house and mom came with me, he’d get very upset that now my mom’s door didn’t automatically open when he pawed it. Everytime he’d come for his 1-2wk long visit, he’d first go crazy saying hit to me & my kid, then go out back, then when I let him in he’d run to my mom’s room & paw her door and bark. My mom with no desire to have a personal relationship with a dog became attached and she loved his attn. Unfortunately my mom had a chronic illness and even though it was managed well & drs said she’d have at least another 10 yrs, something went wrong. She stopped breathing & it took to long for the drs to bring her back, & by then everything that made mom mom, was gone; so we let her go. My sister gave me Jake so I could have the comfort of him and he again ran to my mom’s door but when I opened it, he was so confused. Where was nonnie The next visit we’d cleaned out her room and packed up her stuff & when he went in he immediately went from excited to confused and sad. He laid down next to her bed and wouldn’t move until I insisted. I think it was bc she passed in the hospital so he didn’t know she died. When Misha my senior Poochon passed, we brought him to her and he showed signs of grief but was then ok. Last Friday I finally had to let go of my senior Bichon mix & again we brought him to Jake, and the same thing happened.
It’s actually amazing how dogs can understand death, but sad how if they’re not allowed to see the one that’s passed, they feel extra confusion that they’re no longer around. I really wish hospitals would let animals in when a human they love is passing away so they could have closure, bc I feel like without it they’re just waiting for someone to come home, who will never come back.

Animals are the best friends anyone could have. Those out there who only see these creatures as a cause for chores, do not deserve them. Every pet deserves a good human though. No human is as loyal as an animal. I want nothing more than a pet of my own, a soul mate, an animal that is happy when it sees me, and cheers me up with silly moments or cuddles, but because I have a very small flat and little money, I can't give a potential pet a worthy home, but it would have my undivided attention and love which is more than can be said for many pets who belong to rich people.

Ok I can't be the only one screaming at the TV to let Pita live with grandma for as long as she's still with us.
That's an undeniable bond, and the obvious joy they give to one another is amazing.
I'm not say give the bird away, I'm just saying let pita live with grandma for a while (hopefully a few more years)

Animals can establish POWERFUL connections with people. During her last few years of life, my mom used a rolling walker with a fold-down seat to get around her home. I had a cat that loved to ride on it and go wherever she went. Nothing made her smile more than his affection for her.

My father passed away over a year and a half ago and I still haven't been able to fully process it.
The way these two interacted was a message from the beyond, like I had with my father a couple of times.
I am crying right now. Honestly, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As an Australian- I dislike seeing cockatoos in captivity immensely. I have a huge flock of wild ones that visit for wild bird seed every day. They should live with a dozen other cockatoo’s flying free in their native habitat. That bird is lonely for its own species.

0: 30 - They definitely knew each other in a past life. The way the bird walked up to Grandma; it was like the soul of a best friend reuniting with their long lost friend or something

Our furry, feathery & scaly friends recognise a biged person, this old lady being 1 herself. Real friendship is the product when they come together.
