Join Rick Martinez in the Bon Apptit Test Kitchen as he makes pupusas filled with refried red beans and cheese. Once you taste this classic Salvadoran dish, youll definitely want to experiment with the fillings -- carnitas, beef, anything (but not literally anything)

I just made these, thank you Rick for the recipe I made it completely to the directions came out perfect. I got 14 instead of 12 but I'm not complaining. I heard you can freeze the rest so that's nice. I felt like they were playing a secret drinking game in the kitchen to see how many times Rick would say Lube or he lost the bet lol.

Im so glad that my country El Salvador could finally be represented in such a big magazine but there are so many mistakes and things wrong with this recipe a few things he said were a bit off like saying theyre fried, theyre not fried, if they were, anything with a little bit of oil for it not to stick would be fried.

Or, you can actually type pupusas in the YouTube search bar and look how Salvadorians make it and save yourself 10 minutes. Just tell a latin person that you need a stand mixer and all those kitchen utensils to make pupusas or tortillas and see what happens. They'll probably hit you with a spoon.

This awesome. We love pupusas. We don't like paying 3 bucks apiece to buy them ready made. Now I see I can stop at the Mexicatessen and pick up some perfectly made masa dough and just go home and make those pupusas myself. Love it. I'm thinking beans, loroco and cheese. Yum.

I have never in my 21 years of life living with a Salvadoran mother I have never seen her mix the queso con los frijoles like that. Se mezclan cuando se cose. I have also never in my life someone use an ice cream scoop you eye ball that b lmaoo also that salsa is way too thick

That nail color I wore that same looking color for a whole year when I was in highschool lol ah memories. Speaking if memories, I have good memories with pupusas and I always imagined them to be a little difficult to make. Now I'm gonna give it a go.

I am gonna try making these Some nice tips. And I dont just mean the nails I mean charring onions, lube for your hands, patching holes. If I were you Id be more embarrassed by calling the sides accoutrements in a Frenchy accent than mentioning umami lol

Ok, so can we just stop for a moment to pay our utmost respect to the chef who can dice and blend and chop and stir and basically cook up a storm with perfectly manicured hands AND SOMEHOW MANAGES TO GO WITHOUT CHIPPED OFF NAIL POLISH, OH MY GOD

I just wanted to thank Rick for making this video. Until now, I had never been able to replicate the pupusas and refried beans that my grandfather and father make. They've tried to explain it a few times, but their instructions were too vague. Thank you
