I made these last night and ran into an issue. We don't readily have corn flour. I was looking online and it seems like UK corn flour perhaps refers to corn starch? Or is it actually corn flour? Would I be able to substitute normal flour and corn starch (if so, at which ratios? Any advice would be super-helpful Thank you so much for making me be a more confident baker for the first time in my life

I SO wanna try this recipe but can't buy self raising flour where I live - Jemma, if you were baking your vanilla cupcakes by using regular all purpose flour, what quantities would you use of baking powder, baking soda etc? :) By the way, visited the Crumbs and Doilies shop when I was in London and the cupcakes were definately worth making the trip (I live in Oslo, Norway): )

I'm not a fan of custard so I made a homemade chocolate pudding for substitute. big hit Also try the lemon meringue cake she made. it truly is to die for Thanks Jemma P. S. you're the first YouTuber that has actually put out delicious cake recipes that I've tried. ( although converting grams to cups is a bit tricky at times. should never bake when tired)

Hello, I tried this recipe today. For people who do not like too much sweet, can reduce the amount of sugar in custard. In addition to this I can smell and taste bicarbonate of soda in my cupcakes so better to avoid adding it if you are using baking powder in flour or self raising flour. Rest was good. so I will try this recipe again soon.

+CupcakeJemma - can I use microwave oven for baking? I do not have either one, as of now. But I am starting to feel inclined towards baking and want to do it right. So any advice on which one should I buy - microwave oven with convection mode (have heard conflicting views on its baking acumen) or simply an oven? From India.

Hi, Jemma I've got a question regarding cake batter; why do some recipes require mixing ingredients a bit at a time, while others you can just dump everything all together and mix? I personally prefer mixing a few things at a time, but does it make a difference at the end? Love this recipe, can't wait to try it: )

I am LITERALLY standing at my stove with my custard and butter (at the icing stage) in a pot trying to warm up the custard cream because when I put the butter in it to make the icing my butter seized up and now I have little pellets of butter it didn't mix in.

I just made these today for my husbands birthday since Boston cream pie is his favorite dessert. Oh man, creme mousseline is the best thing I have ever tasted I think I may use that instead of buttercream from now on. Thank you for the amazing recipe, Jemma
