Kingfisher is a San Diego restaurant that serves Vietnamese French food with a California lens. That culmination of flavors has turned it into one of the city's busiest Vietnamese restaurants, thanks in part to its iconic dry-aged duck dish. Watch executive chef David Sim and his team make the famous duck dish, a whole fried rockfish, grilled abalone, and more.

There's almost no need to westernize Vietnamese food to the point it's lost all of it's charm. The Vietnamese owners and head chef know damned well this isn't what they grew up eating.
Calling it French-Vietnamese is not fusion. It's confusion. Vietnamese food and flavors stand on their own. What you get at Kingfisher is French first, Vietnamese flavors, ingredients and cooking second.
If you're looking for great Vietnamese food, there are amazing places in San Diego. There are also really good French places too. This shouldn't be on your list.

all this might look fancy but when you actually think about it its total bs. the duck is aged, grilled, smoked and baked what the hell. that whole fried fish an absolute nightmare to pick apart. the pasta i can smell the mountain of garlic through the screen, that egg and truffle has no chance against that. besides that, when handling delivery cartons you really should switch gloves before handling raw meat. sorry but those guys are pure amateurs.

Food looks amazing. For those saying it's French first, that fish is not French. Duck is eaten a lot in Vietnam, unlike in the US. Yes, there are elements of French and a bit of Chinese, but it's definitely Viet the way it's served and even in it's presentation of the noodles (French don't do noodles, fresh herbs (this is extremely Viet as herbs are king of the cuisine there, veggies, dips, etc.

As a local this place is so overrated. 78 dollars for the dry aged duck and 54 dollars for the whole fried fish. A whole rockfish costs 5 dollars at the docks btw and less than 20 at local Mexican restaurants. Oh also they add a 20% service charge on your check and then expect you to tip afterwards.

I can attest that this restaurant is straight fire! Amazing food, great drinks. And the owners are some of the nicest and community oriented people in San Diego!

The fish looks tempting, I like the presentation. I have had duck 100 times, but not fully get it, perhaps its the texture

Scaling a fish with small kitchen knife! That's not optimal at all. There is way more efficient tools to do scaling 5x faster.

In SE Asia you can get a deep fried fish just like in this restaurant for like $7. here, it is $51 the USD is so overvalued
