I think this is a fairly well-composed video about the mythical cheesesteak. When you grow up in Philadelphia, you are somewhat surprised that everyone outside has awe and reverence for a sandwich you just take for granted. We got poor-quality cheesesteaks served to us in the school cafeteria that are better than what Subway makes. The central thesis of this video is 100% correct. Just go to any pizzeria or hoagie shop in the Delaware Valley and order a cheesesteak with American and fried onion. Most of the time the line cook will make it on a flat top with salt, pepper, and a dash of granulated garlic. The rolls are most often baked nearby. The steak and cheese are usually provided by Sysco, so don't think there's any terroir or something that makes them special. It's really just the knowledge passes from cook to cook about doing it right.

Your so right, when people first come to Philly they go straight for the tourist places. They make good steaks, but they are far from the best in Philly. This guy knows what he's doing, Joe's is definitely one of my many favorite spots here in Philly. lol. There are so many good places to get a cheese steak in Philly, it's hard to choose sometimes. Genos and Patts are good, but you will wait in line for about an hour. Why do that, when you can get something a lot better, cheaper, and faster, if you go to some of these places in this video.

Ive been to all these places an pats and genos have the best cheese steaks. Dont listen to these idiots that think there bad just because theres a lot of tourists that go there. There a tourist attraction because they are by far the best steaks. People hate anything thats mainstream popular I guess its the cool thing to do. Than you got those idiots its not a real cheese steak because it doesnt have cheese whiz well provolone shits all over cheese whiz and American cheese

Real Philly natives go to hole in the wall neighborhood joints. A true Philly cheesesteak is not complicated to make. Thin sliced rib eye steak, fresh Italian bread, cheese and optional onions. I prefer provolone. The whole cheap American cheese and Cheez Wiz started because the places could keep costs down and maximize profit with cheap ingredients. Too bad tourist traps like Pat's and Geno's still overcharge.

I'm from Toronto I haven't had many legit philly cheesesteaks. but I know good food. I went to Philly about 6 months ago and I went to Gino's I wasn't impressed at all, to be honest the people working there didn't seem happy or looked like they enjoyed there jobs either. I was surprised because it was supposed to be the main spot. Next time I will do a bit more research when I go to Philly

John's Roast Pork is best sandwich in Phila. Chubby's had the best cheesesteak. Spent a few days in Phila in June, ate nothing but cheesesteaks 4-6 a day, a month later had a heart attack. Enjoyed my experience in Phila, it was worth it. Btw, heart attack was cause I was an over eating, morbidly obese, lazy bastard, the cheese steaks just helped progress my iminent clogged artery.

What a dumbas concept. How many hundreds of cheesesteak places do the experts at Eater think they are. Ask a person who is a native Philadelphian. Don't rely on a so called expert. .Stay clear of the tourist places, which is qute obvious. Also forget places that have piles of meat already pre cooked.

My buddy travels for business and is a cheesesteak fan. When I found myself in Philly I called him and he pointed me to Dalessandros. It was amazing and the staff. well I wanted to hire all of them for my business. Hats off to them for a great meal and great people.

I am a Philly citizen through and thought and I love that he is going to places that are not on the tourist path, because the most interesting steaks are all over, a different local flavor. and Dalessandro's is amazing, by far my favorite place to get a steak!

Alright I was gonna hold back, but the moment the roast pork sandwich made an appearance. I knew this vid had gone off the rails! I thought this was about cheesesteaks! And speaking on cheesesteaks. I'm sorry but it's not a cheesesteak if it's not whiz wit.
