Mac and cheese is a beloved dish that is both easy and quick to make. So we're wondering. is there a device that can speed the process up even more? Shop the SmartPlanet Electric Mac & Cheese Maker

I do like the idea of incorporating stirring implements into heating or chilling containers, you can make unique food textures with such machines. A lot of things would be a lot easier to microwave if you could stir while the microwave was on and still heating, like melting chocolate. This is basically an inverted ice cream machine (as long as you spin it in the opposite direction lol. I think it seems pretty useful, but advertising it as solely for making mac and cheese may have been a marketing mistake. What this really needs is a motor on the crank, and then you can use it for all kinds of soups and sauces that need to be heated and stirred for long periods of time at low frequency. Being able to remove the stirring pot from the electric housing and throw it in the dishwasher would help too

you know the other comments make me think this way WAY WAY WAY more then just a macand cheese maker, you can boil other noonles in there and you can boil water for tea or coffee, and in a dorm, ITS A MUST! because most dont have a stove or even allowed a hot plate inside the dorm so this for 20 is very very very affordable and practical i say its good for its price and if you live in a dorm you HAVE TO BUY THIS!

it's essentially a hot pot with a few added features. i'm not sure anyone really uses a hot pot for home use - i really only see them used in dorm room cooking, as most dorms are really restrictive on what appliances you can use. so, you can boil water for tea or instant soups/oatmeal, or you can make pasta and ramen. and really, do college students really eat anything else? :D

There are situations where that would be useful. Dorms come to mind for me, you could use it as a kettle, ramen maker, Mac and cheese/pasta maker, and to heat up canned food like soup. You could probably even boil eggs pretty easy or make rice. If you don't have access to a stove, it's a good price for something by that milti tasks better than a kettle.

Would definitely get one of these to introduce my kid to cooking. Very similar mentality to me as the easy bake oven. The less you are able to do wrong and the more a child likes the output, the easier it is to introduce them to it without making it feel like a chore, not to mention it LOOKS like a toy.

I love mine, it's great with two grandsons. It cooks the pasta perfect and sometimes I don't have to drain it as the water is all absorbed by the pasta. And when I put the butter, milk and cheese powder in I take the lid off. I lucked out and found mine at a thrift store for 5.

I must still be childish cuz I was think how you could use it for other things, make scrambled eggs, boil eggs, put some chicken (or other) soup in there, heat up some water for instant coffee or tea, if I have learned anything its that you hack anything

That definitely looks like something Kraft should be giving away for free if you send in like 12 box tops of Kraft Mac & Cheese. I would not pay good money for it. It also looks hard to clean. I don't buy anything that cannot be thrown into a dishwasher.

One thing Ill never understand is why people with a kettle dont just boil the water in that first, then put it in the pot and hey presto. Why would you wait for stone cold water to heat up. I guess maybe kettles are a more British thing? Idk
reply

Not gonna lie if the mac and cheese maker wasn't rainbow coloured I might buy it. The fact that you can use it as a makeshift kettle too, and even make perfect instant noodles in there, plus no strainer either
