Shame on Lucas for presenting this point of view. This perpetrates a dangerous lie: that cheap, unskilled labor must be imported into a country with over 300 million people in it. The reality is that the rate of pay for kitchen workers is too low to utilize the abundant, domestic labor pool that is available. Americans won't take the jobs because the pay meets only the lowest of standards. That isn't what America should be. We want high standards for kitchen workers, not low standards. The only reason that we need immigrants is because Americans are not willing to pay prices for eating in a restaurant that will support a living salary for those who prepare the food. If the immigrant labor pool was not available, then there would be fewer, but better restaurants, with better paid workers. Immigrants can live on those salaries only because they are willing to live under conditions that would be unacceptable to anyone from an advanced, developed economy (multiple families per residence, no health care, etc. Make no mistake, that eliminates opportunities for US citizens who would like to work in a restaurant but know they can't do it on the current pay rates. That is inhumane to the immigrants and is inhumane to our fellow citizens. It is a business model that is tainted by dishonesty and a lack of regard for law and order (i. e. immigration laws) and forces the American labor force to live by the standards of undeveloped countries. We must be willing to pay more for eating out. We also must be willing to enforce law and order. We have over 300 million people in this country. There are plenty of workers. We just need to pay them fairly. We can't do that as long as business owners insist they require an abundant supply of cheap labor from undeveloped countries. Mass immigration must end.

When I watch videos about food, I don't want anything that branches off to make my brain work extra hard. Nuance is too difficult for me! I just want to digest food not digest information. The fact that people say this reaffirms what this lady is attempting to do: start a dialogue. And, I get that when we watch any kind of content, there is that purpose that it's a form of release and relaxation, but a lot of people just plainly disrespected Cristina Martinez's background. That's her story combined with her passion for food. How is this any different from other Dining on a Dime episode? I enjoyed it. If one doesn't, it's more of a reflection of the commenter rather than Eater, Lucas, or Cristina. Keep it up, Eater!

Lucas is the absolute best. He doesn't rely on theatrics when he eats a food. You know what I'm talking about: the people who OOOOH and AHHH. The people who basically fake an orgasm because they lack the ability to express the taste in words. He doesn't need a thesaurus on hand (looking at you hurrr durrr maillard reaction Nick, because Lucas is actually competent at his job. He can actually tell you how good (or bad) something tastes without hyperbole or cliche food phrases. And the cherry on top, he can always get people to open up about their lives. More of Lucas, less of the other chumps. Thanks

Dang if we all wouldn't just want to swim in that roja sauce, along with that shrimp. That looks like a giant prawn to me. Invasive and oh so delicious. I don't know why people are so against the invasive giant prawn. They are superior and sweeter in every way and the industry should accept and embrace the more superior product. Catching it is the same for them anyway. Once again, Lucas doesn't fail to represent the foods of the locale to the best possible elevation.

Have been waiting for a new Dining on a Dime episode. Martinez' food looks so delicious and I can feel their dishes are truly authentic. I will definitely stop by the restaurant one day! Thanks for sharing, Eater! :)

Funny how an earlier video featuring an Italian American restaurant owner talking about her grandfather's immigrant story didn't elicit the same complaints about injecting politics into food reviews.
