Sushi may look simple, but the preparation that chefs complete behind the scenes before service even begins is much more complicated than in seems. We visit 15 East in New York City to see some of their techniques. From expertly seasoning rice to handling whole, freshly caught seafood, sushi chefs transform numerous raw ingredients into flavorful, bite-size combinations. Watch the video above for a look at the work sushi chefs put in before sushi assembly. More sushi videos from Eater: For more info on 15 East

Sushi preparation can be simple or hard depending on what kind of texture your mouth prefers. For example, my friend brought me some fresh tuna he caught a few days ago. We sliced the best part of the tuna. I don't need a 5000 sushi knife, just a 8 IKEA sharp cutting knife does the trick. I cubed some of the tuna afterwards and then dropped it over fresh rice that I cooked and pre-marinaded with soy, mirin, seasoning, and bonito. Stir it a bit and that's home made poke bowl.

You are fine girl, your voice is fine. Only in the Eater community will you have so many vocal experts critiquing every host's vocal nuances and every small habit in a video primarily about food. Sure, the host's presentation physically and vocally are very important, but yall need to chill on the hate criticism here, not even constructive at all. Some people actually come here and enjoy food videos.

looked like a raw fish on a rice and it was, ofc getting the flesh out of the fish will take time and ofc cutting the flesh in a good desired shape will take time it involves not skills but consumes time only i say to sushi cooks don't over-glorify what you do

NO NO NO! SUSHI does NOT, in it's most BASIC form, contain FISH! Yes it CAN and today, especially in the USA, have raw fish added to it, but it does NOT, in it's most basic form, contain FISH! The proper word for raw fish is SASHIMI

So informative. I make my own sushi dinner for the family because where I live Japanese restaurants serve you paper thin slices of fish. So thin that one only tastes the rice (and even that's not made well) instead of the fish.

When you go to comment section to see what sushi people have tried, and see nothing but pointless comments about the narrators voice. Guys, this is a sushi video, not the worlds best voice narrator video. Lol

This video is 100% on point. I just wished they showed what was it like to work there. The sushi is great, but I can tell you, working there was a pain in the ass. (A former employee)

though I have never eaten sushi from an actual sushi bar, I have eaten sushi from the commissary, and it was digesting. The only thing I can eat raw and like it is oysters.

If you fillet the fish why do u scale it? Maybe I don't know something but it seems counter productive. I usually scale a fish when I'm going to KEEP and eat the skin.

? she doesn't really have that annoying voice. Yes she doesn't introduce some of the things very deeply but her voice isn't the problem lol
