No salt, no pepper, meat cut with the grain, served on an incredibly cheap plastic plate together with cheapest shit bread you can buy. Furthermore it does not look especially appetizing as plated. Not impressed. Why can they not make an effort? How about some normal plates, more modern/attractive salad/potato/corn? Serve it with some homemade sauces instead of mass produced shit? Maybe buy or bake some sourdough bread? Have a little bit of seasoning on the meat? Serve it with good beer or healthy flavored water instead of extremely unhealthy soft-drinks full with corn syrup? As a European i am appalled by the lack of finesse and the sloppiness displayed by esteemed american restaurant like this. They can be proud of their rich barbecue tradition and they should stop being lazy and start building quality dishes on what they have. It does not have to be more expensive or posh.

This review is VERY misleading. House Park is OLD, correct. The pit is OLD, correct. The place looks like it did in the 50s, CORRECT. They serve good Texas BBQ. WRONG. This place is hard to figure out because of the length of time it has been here and the old school way of cooking BUT it has simply NEVER been any good. The location is unbeatable, being less than 5 minutes from either downtown OR UT, so at lunch it SHOULD be packed to but it NEVER has more than 4 or 5 people eating there and that doesnt make sense other than THE MEAT isn't any good. Nick makes this place look all classic Texas BBQ but its simply well below avg and on top of that they actually accept 50% off coupons which makes their lunch plates cost about 5. 00? Nobody in Austin even sells 5 chopped beef sandwiches anymore and you are looking at 15+ for a plate lunch.

Actually House Park has very little local long time following becuase its simply not very good. The brisket you got looked dry and somewhat tough, like it was cooked too fast/hot. there are no generations of familes eating here because of them have always travelled the 3-45 minutes to Taylor, Llano, Elgin and Luling where the best BBQ has always been.

I'm kinda bummed out that he doesn't mention the thin slices and how they cut with the grain. For a series that's so dedicated to describing the intricate details of meat, it should be a given to talk about stuff like this. It feels like they're avoiding mentioning stuff which can come off as negative.

The meat looks great, but I can't help but think about how bland it must taste if they don't season it with salt or pepper. I fail to see how that's a bragging point. I don't care if I'm eating the most tender piece of meat if it doesn't have any flavor to it.

It is readily apparent that this guy is payed to talk against Franklin's. The food looked like a pile of shit. The bbq was overcooked and the restaurant empty. Man do they know how to influence

Watching all these places make me miss home. Love Houston, so much food, and I would always make the drive or ride out to Austin, Dallas, SanAn for food. Screw NW Florida.

I'm going to have to stop watching you (not) as each episode makes me ravenous. The food looks divine and I can't wait for my next real barbecue experience. Thank you!

What? No comment on the potato salad, beans and bread? Nice review. People need to be reminded that there's still excellent old school 'cue to enjoy. Blessings ChefMike
