Chef Yia Vang of Vinai in Minneapolis tells the story of his culture and the Hmong people through open fire cooking and feasts. No: Betcha his restaurant soon-to-be opened is gonna be jammed packed. He's truly the only Hmong chef that is really out there with his character and personality. He's gonna draw a lot of community attention when his restaurant is in business.

Think the most Hmong thing about this whole video is just the whole vibe of togetherness and selflessness. Don t get me wrong, Hmong people can be real damn greedy, but when you go to someone s house to eat, you ll never everrrrrre starve. You ll go home with food packed for the whole next day.
Thanks for representing the best of us.
PS: everything looks delicious.

hmong people range from all over, from being extremely kind and sharing to just, strict, and the food wise, there isnt really a hmong food type deal since its really a mash up of the entire Indochina area. but, at least you wont go hungry when food is severed cause its a lot to eat

Love this guy's mentality - here's the situation, now what do we do about it? How do we move forward? I feel like this philosophy is present in his foods and you can tell its delicious because you know he's the type to keep on improving the recipe/taste.

iT's nOt hMoNg fOoD in the comments. you idiots, he literally alludes to this in the first few seconds and reiterates it's the state of mind that he is focusing on here. He knows this ain't boiled chicken and rice. Pay attention

I always find it funny that hmongs have concentrated in Minnesota. You'd think they'd seek out a more tropical-like area like the southeast US instead so it'd be at least somewhat closer to their homeland(s)

The one thing I respect about hmong people is that you don't really hear about them playing the victim card. They love the USA no matter what. They are strong people who are able to overcome all obstacles.

Keep up the great work brother. Represent Hmong!
Side note: anyone saying this ain't Hmoob cooking is lying. Every Hmoob family has a grilling basket and lemon grass. He secretly add msg behind sceen.

Those beef ribs tho. I fkn hate pork ribs, these look like they'd change my mind on ribs all together. Cringed a lil when I saw him use supermarket fish sauce though.

Cool fact the Hmong people are one of the many cultural minority groups in Vietnam, so to watch a video about America mix with Hmong culture is really interesting.
