As you head north of Londons city center, you may notice yourself surrounded by a multitude of Turkish restaurants. Named for Turkeys largest city, Istanbul Restaurant specializes in meat -- lots and lots of meat. Host Lucas Peterson spends this episode of Dining on a Dime: London exploring the ins and outs of the wonderful food of this country

There is something so inexplicably grating about this series. I can't tell if it's the host, who often seems like he could be chewing on cardboard for all of the visible cues he delivers vis a vis his reaction to the food (short version, he's boring and seems. off-puttingly smug. Other smaller things, like scoring a video about Turkish food with upbeat ska music, just detract from any hope I could have of taking this content seriously.

From what i could see 5 out of those 10 small meze dishes were not Turkish, they were either Middle-Eastern(Arabic, Persian, or Mediterranean (Greek, Spanish, etc. The spices are also pretty wrong. Also cinnamon is common Turkish spices, it belongs more to the Persian cuisine from what i know. Turkish cuisine is dominated by oregano, cumin, mint, parsley and peppers.

to all my eater friends, this horizantal rotating lamb of doner is a different kind of vertical rotating one (at 5: 45). Meat/fat ratio, spices and preperations are different. So nobody think this horizantal lamb kebab to put on vertical in Turkey. Video is awesome, i just wanted to put a information here with my poor English.

Istanbul is a good restaurant but if you are still in London may I recommend trying Hala in Harringay Green Lanes. The only place that I know of that does not include doner meat in its mixed grill. Another dish worth trying is Sarma Beyti (lamb not chicken). It's a pleasure watching your videos.

Eater should seriously consider making videos without narrators. The food speaks for itself. Things like Babagaoush needs no introduction. Viewers would be much more interested in the restaurant owner rather than the dietary habits of the host's father.

I drove my missus up to birmingham recently to get some decent turkish food. There are great turkish eateries all over there. Would really recommend looking to birmingham if you don't want to pay london prices.

Turkish food is just so awesome. No German who likes food can imagine a Germany without Turkish food. It's just sad that Turkey is isolating itself politically even more than the US right now: (

OPRF! High school shirts are always classic. I didn't go there, but I'm from the area and have friends who did. We played you guys every once in a while in sports out of district.

I have yet to find a Turkish restaurant like this anywhere on the west coast of the USA or Canada. Had this in London years ago and miss this type of Turkish food so much.
