Welcome back to Halo Halo! In this episode, Francesca is in Washington, DC at Bad Saint. Mark: You clickbaited me by saying the most famous. It's not. Go to seafood city girl. Kudos to the chef though, but this is not Filipino food per se. Obviously this is fusion to cater to the taste buds of Americans. Everything looks really good. This can open up doors to other food entrepreneurs here. Maybe this restaurant is famous to more non Filipinos. It may not be authentic, but it's still a good way to show what Filipino dishes can be. Like Chinese, thai, and vietnamese cuisines, Filipino food is up there in class and taste.

Filipino food is an acquired taste. If you go to Chinese or Thai restaurant in America, there are many different ethnicities and races eating there, but if you go to a Filipino restaurant, you'll only see Filipinos eating there. Am I wrong? Sure, you'll see the occasional white or black person, but they, usually, had a Filipino friend that brought them there. It's because Filipino food is an acquired taste. I know; I'm half Filipino. Filipinos are the only ones that like Filipino food.

And where is the Rice, oh I forgot Filipinos dont eat rice. So this is so authentic. Except for the stir fry wok, that has CHINA all over it. The CHICKEN FEET was so digusting, NO FILIPINO would actually eat that. and they are eating on bowls. How sad. The Philippines does have a culture may not be as iconic as Mexico or Thai. but with proper RESEARCH some Filipino food can be great. But all these basturdized version, ruin the chance of fILIPINo food to be known.

I love the exposure, respect, and artistry Chef Cunanan gives to the cuisines of different regions of the Philippines. I think most Americans whove had some exposure to Filipino food dont realize how varied the food, techniques and even some ingredients can be. It seems the majority of the Filipino restaurants out here in the San Francisco Bay Area serve the same, typical dishes. Its sad that the more indigenous dishes dont get a lot of exposure.

One weakness of Filipino food is presentation and adapting to Western palates- I am so glad that new generations chefs are finding a way to introduce these regionally diverse dishes to the world without making them too different that the cuisine turns into Panda Express. The dishes in featured in particular may not look traditional, but really what matters imo are the flavors and how memorable they are to the diner. Kudos to them!

First of all, there is no such a thing as bad saint. I will never eat or stay in a place where it promotes a saint is bad. Please explain why name a restaurant that promotes a bad saint. Some kind of shock value? There are other names you can use instead of promoting a bad saint to atheists, satanists, etc. May the Lord enlightens and send thy Holy Spirit upon you. Amen

Filipino food is so underrated. I will eat sinigang, sisig, adobo and pinakbet and a whole lot more over fast food _ I guess it helps that even the poor have very good access to raw produce since Market is everywhere even illegally squatting on the streets. I guess I just really happy people are starting to appreciate our food Hahahah

Sorry, not to bust your bubble. That is NOT AUTHENTIC filipino food! What? All your life you only been to the Philippines once! If you put a twist or alter the taste of traditional filipino cusine considering there are many depending on the island where the dish originated from. that is NOT AUTHENTIC filipino cuisine!

He won the James Beard Award last year & now takes reservations on Wednesday at 11: 00 am exactly. It usually fills up in 10 minutes. I've been there 3 times in two months last year & will be going next month. Absolutely love the food. The 1st time there he was gracious enough to take pictures with us.

First time lang niya pumunta sa Philippines noong 2017.
