Butcher Etana Diaz On Working in a Male Dominated Field [A Vox Creative Production with KitchenAid]

Butcher Etana Diaz is more dedicated than most. Her time in restaurants felt rough and too familial from the men she shared a kitchen with. So she began her next step: becoming a butcher. After being turned away from every butcher shop in Seattle, Diaz made a big move to England to apprentice at The Ginger Pig in London. In the documentary A Woman s Place, we find Diaz lifting primals, dazzling at the marbling in meat, and loving every second of it. Richard: What an interesting story. Shame you didn't explain how she ended up in England. Seems like it'd be an interesting story to tell, along with a female butcher. Why she had to leave the US to get work.

Male dominated?
Idk about that fam, women these days just prefer more professional and not so hands on careers. And there s nothing wrong with that, so I really don t get this whole male dominated thing anymore, yes there s a pay gap between men and women but I think that s shrinking and at least in America that mentality of that s a women s job or vice versa is less common, but yeah, not every little girl wants to grow up and become a butcher.

Man people really don't get it do they. Obviously the majority of butchers are male, obviously not many women want to become butchers. But that's not the point? This person was actively trying to become a butcher and was discouraged from doing that because she is a woman. How is that not shitty? Smh

Why would you suggest someone do a dirty, dangerous, and labor intensive job unless they had no other alternative? Industries like butchery are male dominated not because men are special, but because men are disposable.

I dont see very many woman trying to work underground in a sewage treatment pipes. Where is the representation there. Or is it just the glamorous jobs they want representation.

First time hearing someone wanting to have a butcher shop that feels homey. Well, if you dream it, you can make it into reality. You go girl!

Eater out here reading my mind. I'm sitting at my computer daydreaming about opening a shop where I do my own nose to tail butchery.
