I watched a show I think was on MTV showing the training technique used by Kobayashi. It was amazing. To eat 65+ hotdogs in 10 minutes isn't a casual day at the picnic. He had to eat 5-7 lbs of food to stretch his stomach for weeks in preparation. It was painful. Chestnut couldn't get close to him until he began to train like him. There are no milktoast eating competitions. This host did a nice job in telling the story. Horrible job of competitive eating. 3. 9 dogs in 3 minutes. naw I'm sure he was sick for weeks after.

Nah you missed the most important thing. It's when the Japanese started competing and DESTROYED the competition (by posting double the gains as everyone else) that interest in the hot dog contest blew up. To put it into perspective, in the time when runners were trying to break a 4 minute mile, the Japanese were running the mile in 2 minutes.

Why don't they soak a bunch of buns at once and just eat a bunch of dogs while they're soaking? Like get a bucket of water and soak 10 buns at once, mow down 10 dogs, then get to their buns after that.

Nice work, Daniel! If you really want to learn more about the history, the masters and how much serious training goes into competitive eating, check out the ESPN 20 for 20 on Joey and Kobayashi.
