Live Chat with Chef John - Special Pandemic Edition Eve: I'm hoarding vitamin C and water filters. But seriously, I use powdered milk every day, I have 18 kg. of rice, 10 kg. of flour, dried vegetables, beans, etc. I mean when you live in Saskatchewan there's always a chance of getting snowed in. I also have a camp stove and fuel, since the power goes out a lot here too. I did go to the store yesterday to get coffee, because I can't run out of that and still tolerate my children. Last time my Mom was here visiting, I had to cook breakfast and make coffee by headlamp on the front porch because the power was out, again, so it's just another day.

Hi Chef, Frank Milino from North Carolina. I'm 71 years old and cooking has been a hobby of mine for many years. I have probably used no less than 25 of your recipes. Out of those recipes at least 18 came out great. The ones that didn't turn out too well were most likely due to something I did wrong no more than 2 or 3 were something my wife and I just didn't care for. I can tell my wife and our friends always feel excited when I tell them I making a recipe from Chef John. Love Food Wishes and keep up the good work. How about some easy Italian bread recipies?

I am generally curious as to what Coronavirus death count would make food hoarding justified 5, 000? 500, 000? 5 million dead? The amount of no big deal commenters is surprising. I'll be watching and reading though, I'm already seeing more comments of people support the social distancing practice, and shaming those who don't. Chef John, thanks for the good food recipes and stay safe

HIgh acid foods, tomatoes (add a teaspoon of commercial lemon juice as our tomatoes aren't as acidic as they used to be, fruits, jams, jellies all get boiled inside the jar for a bit. Vegetables and meats require a pressure canner. You process for the period of time for the longest product you have in the jar in pressure canning. Meat must be canned for 90 minutes, this means beans also.

People are acting weird. I was at the grocery, and a lady ran in all out of breath. She ran up to the cashier and yelled, where are the lentils? We are out of all dried beans, the cashier replied. She said breathlessly, No one has lentils. I have been to three stores. Aldi has no lentils, Walmart has no lentils, you have no lentils. And she ran out of the store. Weird huh?

For the pandemic pantry shopping, I bought 3 organic chickens and broke them down. The first one was not pretty, after sharpening the knife the other two were perfect. I made an ass load of stock in my instant pot and then made a bunch of soup. The produce is being stored in our garage and I've made a meal plan. We're eating better than ever.

Your going to get 2 kinds of people. Those that isolate themselves andThose that go to work. No other choice people. Cows must be milked. Animals must be fed. People will need the basics. You can't blame a Virus for Global Banker FraudThe Stockmarket will become irrelevant if this continues. That's just common sense.

I heard once do you cook your beans without spices or salt. They get soft and tender a lot faster. Ive done that for years now and it really works. Just add your seasonings after the beans are tender and ready to eat. The flavor is still wonderful and you have cooked the beans so much faster.

Chef, you're a very generous person. Thanks for diverting our attention for an hour, and for doing the public service thing by reminding everyone, regardless of age, to practice social distancing. Younger people forget they're still potential vectors, and they can contract it too. So thank you
