Since it was inspired by St. Patricks Day, this St. Patty Melt should really be called a St. Paddy Melt, but my desired to be grammatically correct wasnt as strong as my desire to get lots of search engine traffic from people looking for a patty melt. Either way, this is a truly great grilled sandwich

Hey Chef John, I got a food wish. It is the 'halfabout sandwich', which is a sandwich with sliced cooked beef liver and sliced brined beef. It is a jewish recipe from Amsterdam. In Dutch the recipe is called 'Broodje halfom', which has a wiki page. The origin of this recipe is the sandwich shops which were open in Amsterdam on sundays and on where the primarily christian population could buy a snack. It is not a complicated recipe, but it is one rooted in cultere, with a story

At home when I was a little-en Mum would make her nagging kids on a Sunday a similar melt to keep us quiet before lunch. It would be made with roasted potatoes (made in beef dripping, sprouts all mashed together with butter, salt, pepper and then used as the filling in a melt, OMG great times. Try it you can thank me later

Hey I got a question for chef john or the chat. I'm allergic to the onion and garlic family and I cook all of my meals. Except I really struggle with finding something like a sweated onion to replace. Sweating onions is used as a base for so many things, so I'm totally down for some more info to improve my meals.

'A big long molten hot kale leaf being pulled out of the sandwich, causing second degree burns to you chin. I mean good luck explaining that scar at work'- Please boss Believe me, I wasn't up all night again trying to replicate Chef John's recipes, I merely got tasered in the face in a bar fight

Great recipe I think I'll try it with Irish soda bread. Pork sausage patties would be good too, but if you cut a link lengthwise and seared it in the pan you could follow the mythos of St. Patrick and say it was a snake. That's one way to rid an island of serpents, turn them into sandwiches

Hi, this sandwich looks delicious My only problem is, with all recipies is, I can't stand the smell or taste of garlic. No, I'm not a vampire, I just don't like it. Is there anything to replace garlic in recipies? I make your tomato soup without it all the time. Any ideas? Thank you

Have you ever watched a Chef John recipe and thought, Okay Chef, I'll try it, but honestly, I'm gonna be real mad if this is gross I felt that way about the celery desert, I feel that way about kale and green sandwiches. This better be good chef LOL
