When you grow up eating a certain thing a certain way, it can be challenging to enjoy that certain thing in a new, and significantly different way, which used to be the case for me when it came to any non-creamy tomato soup. Until I discovered this one, and all that changed. Chris: Chef John it is a real pleasure to see to cooking from your garden. I get the feeling this is something you have always wanted to do. I remember your herb garden when you were 'in town'. But now that you're a country gent, you've been reborn. The best way to eat tomatoes are 1-fresh from the garden with a shaker of celery salt. 2-On good bakery toasted white bread with really good butter. 3-This soup you made.

That looked delicious. I just picked about 3 dozen ripe heirloom tomatoes out of the garden just now. The last batch, I made a huge batch of pasta sauce and froze it. I wanted to do something different, and your tomato soup recipes sounds amazing. I'll be doing that this evening. Thanks again John! BTW, I picked about 4 green tomatoes as well. I'll make some fried green tomatoes to go with the soup, I'm not a big bread fan. Cheers!

Chef John, I recently bought a black garlic fermenter and started using black garlic in a whole lot of dishes, it finishes the taste profile of practically everything. I would use some for the tomato soup as well. Could you use it in some of your recipes so I can see the right way to use it?

I'd blend the filtered skins and spread it like a tomato butter on the bread (after cooling from the oven and just before eating to not ruin that fork don't lie goodness, then dip the bread it in the soup. That is just me. I hate wasting food, as my belly can visibly attest to.

So what are you do with the rest of the can of anchovies after use one? Can you freeze them? I tried to give them to my kitties and I kept them up very nicely but they turn their noses up. I have a hard time buying one can of anchovies for one recipe. What do you do?

Chef John! Yes I agree about your fav way to eat fresh tomatoes! I'm from the south and grow Big Boy's and Bradley's. Living in GA, I have a little longer growing period here, so I take advantage! Thank you for sharing! Yummy

I'm so envious of how good those tomatoes look. I hope to grow some as pretty and juicy as those. Also, I'm going to do garlic bread instead because my wife and I are lactose intolerant. But this looks amazing!

Have you considered adding a small knob of butter instead of the olive oil to finish? could give a more eye-catching contrast and the best part is you can easily see the cayenne sprinkled on top of it!

All that is good in the world show us what to do with left over anchovies -- use one and you have a whole jar remaining, and twice I've followed and two jars have gone to waste. Thanks: -)
