Learn how to make Candied Yams RealityIsTheNow: In case anyone is interested in the (big) differences between yams and sweet potatoes: Yams are a monocot (a plant having one embryonic seed leaf) from the Dioscoreaceae family. Sweet potatoes are a dicot (a plant having two embryonic seed leaves) from the Convolvulaceae family. Therefore, they are about as distantly related as two flowering plants can be. Very different vegetables, folks.

I am making Chef John's corn pudding for Thanksgiving. I will take it to the clubhouse where everyone brings a covered dish. They will love it. This looks delicious, though. Thank you, Chef John, for your videos. They make us all better cooks, not to mention the fun it is to listen to a guy with a real sense of humor. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family

Your recipe for sweet potato glaze is almost the same as the one I was taught growing up. Mom added a couple cloves and a bay leaf to cook along with the other ingredients, but take them out before serving. I know it sounds funny, but it's really good. I like how you peel them first. That will be my new way of making this Wonderful episode.

Love you, Chef John May I humbly ask that even though you give us the disclaimer about how cooking times may vary and that testing with a knife is needed, can you still tell us how long you cooked it for, in your case? Just having that additional bit of info might help someone feel more confident in attempting some of these dishes.

Ahh right I did look at them and think 'they look suspiciously like sweet potatoes' aaaannd they are lol. I'm having them tonight as it happens, with garlic and rosemary butter. I'm not a huge fan of them but the other half loves them. The sacrifices we make in the name of love

We've always baked our sweet potato casserole. We cut the potatoes into slices, make a glaze and add some slightly crushed pecans or walnuts into the glaze before drizzling them over the slices of potato, which we then lay like shingles into the baking dish. Good eats

Wow I'm surprised how the food is similar from far away Korea and here We have 'mat tang' which is glazed sweet potato. The difference is we deep fry sweet potato before glaze it. Otherwise it's so similar Bet the taste would be the same too. Looks yum

Perfect I'm on for sweet potatoes for 30 for thanksgiving. And I just came back from Florida with fresh lemons in my bag. Not sure about the cayenne. This is for my daughter's in-laws. I'm an invited guest. Who wants to be invited back next year.

'Why is there smoke coming from your oven? ''Ooh that's not smoke - it's steam, steam from the steamed yams we're having mmmm steamed yams'. 'I thought we were having steamed yams. ''No I said steamed hams, that's what I call hamburgers. '

I have on hand Grade C maple syrup, although it is now relabeled as Grade A in 3 forms which used to be A B and C. The darker, the better flavor Thanks for your holiday inspirations Now where did that lemon seed go?
