Detroit style pizza doe is a lot like fry bread. However, fry bread, as the name implies, is fried or even deep fried in oil (or lard, kinda like a griddle cake or crumpet. It's a kind of flat bread that is traditionally served either with huckleberry jam or with a mountain of chili, cheese, iceberg lettuce, and sour cream on top. It's known as either an indian taco, navajo taco, fry bread taco, and so on. Don't ask why natives call it a taco (I never asked an elder. they would probably tell me a load of BS just for kicks anyway, especially considering we eat it like a pizza.

I had to make this, it looked amazing. I happened to be in Wisconsin so I picked up brick cheese. Cutting it up I wasn't crazy about it, very little taste, I almost didn't put it on the pizza. I took it out of the oven and still the cheese looked terrible, almost soupy even though it was browned. Took a bite and OMG so good. The cheese complements the sauce perfectly, the crispiness of the cheese edges and the crust was to die for. I've converted, best pizza recipe in the US.

That came out great That looks very similar to an Upside down Sicilian. A large rectangular pan pizza, sauce on top. An old pizzeria in Queens, NY is famous for it. Also found similar pan pie from a Montreal Little Italy bakery. And had it from some pizzerias in Rome too. As much as I love a New York style Napoli pizza, being from NYC. this pan version is to die for

Buddys isnt the only Detroit style pizza and definitely not my choice for the best example. I always loved Cloverleaf Pizza the most when I lived north of Detroit in the 1970-80s. When ever I go back I always try to get one. Detroit style pizza is the only pizza where the favorite pieces are the corners.

I'm making this for dinner right now. God, I love pizza. I'm not too far from Detroit in Columbus, OH and we absolutely have our own style of pizza, Donatos being the most famous example. If Chef John ever does Columbus pizza I will be happy in life

The rest time of the dough is too short 6-8 hours is better. Better let it rest for 6 hours stretch it out in the big pan and then let it rise again for 30min/hour. And you do not need to cook the sauce, it will cook from alone on the pizza.

Something is still wrong with your mic. You're coming in slightly hot, or perhaps it's something else, but there's a small amount of distortion in the background that wasn't there in your videos from a couple years ago. Neat video as always though

Growing up in Detroit and the burbs i was spoiled by Shield's, Buddy's, Loui's, & Primo's square pizzas. Loui's is still my favorite. After retirement i moved to the Tip of the Mitt where only Jet's makes Detroit Style pizza. Great video

Detroit style pizza is not a real thing. This is technically sicilian pizza: a thicker squared crust baked well-done. Traditionally it uses no cheese but baked with sauce and breadcrumbs. Detroit style is just sicilian with pepperoni.
