There is no less interesting cookie than an oatmeal cookie, but by making them with granola instead of all regular oats, they go from mundane to magnificent. These are so superior in both taste and texture that they might not just be the best oatmeal cookie, but maybe these are simply the best cookies The: Hey Chef John. There's an issue with the written recipe. I'm noticing the written recipe says to add one 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar but that obviously can't be true, because unless my eyes deceive me, you've put a whole lot more in that mixing bowl. I'm assuming you meant half a cup? Thanks!

I'm mildly dyslexic so I read this is Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies but yeah, the granola secret is out. I did this out of necessity a couple of years ago when I started the cookies without making sure I had enough oats first, so I subbed in some granola. If you can get some Quaker Oats granola, that's the stuff.

Tip: If you like the flavor of raisins but don't like the texture of the raisins that are on the edges, grind the raisins and cream them into the butter/sugar mixture. Oh, and you will need about 1/3 less sugar.

I think there is a typographical error on your allrecipes link. The packed brown sugar calls for half a teaspoon instead of what appears to be half a cup in the video. Cheers! Gonna try this one out asap

Love the combination of toasted and uncooked oats, a treatment of the ingredient that is more commonly used in savory dishes. Can't imagine oatmeal cookies without raisins. But chocolate chips, never!

The best oatmeal cookie I've ever had, was an oatmeal raisin cookie. The trick, is accidentally leaving out the flour. Crumble it into a bowl and pour milk over it. It becomes the best cereal ever.

I am one of those chocolate chip people and I am glad that I was not only not forgotten, I got told when to mix in those chips, which was my question before I even clicked on the video!

I kind of feel like I can't trust you anymore when you describe a food as the best. It seems to describe the majority of foods you share. Superlatives becoming so common cheapens them greatly.

Back to making traditional oatmeal cookies - what do you think about soaking the oatmeal first? Maybe in a melted butter-sugar sauce so that the oatmeal is not so dry when you mix it up.

As an oatmeal raisin person, this is one of the rare times I disagree with Chef John. Looking forward to bastardizing these with different dried fruits - might be better than grandma s!

Oatmeal cookies are great if you use Old Fashioned long cooking (not quick or instant) oats. But I m sure this is great tasting. Probably not advisable for those with diverticulitis

It s just nice to hear someone else confirm that raisins have no business in an oatmeal cookie. Ok, that s not what he actually said but I m pretty sure we all know that s the truth.

Thank you, unbeknownst to you I have been secretly wondering about replacing part of the oatmeal for granola on my own recipe. Just been too chicken to try now I think I will.

For a variant, look up ANZAC biscuits, for a variant that uses treacle. (Yes, biscuits, not cookies. It comes down to heritage laws, and me not wanting to nerd rage.

Bill Clinton's oatmeal cookie recipe toasts the oats and nuts also. If you mix the flour component half and half with Wondra flour the cookies get softer and rise more.
