Everybody is familiar with this chocolate and vanilla cake, either made in zebra or marbled style, the taste of it reminds of childhood probably for many of us. Still a bit warm, along a cup of cold milk, zebra cake always makes a delicious treat. Ingredients Makes about 10 servings 4 eggs 1 cup (200g) sugar 1 cup butter (200 g, at room temperature 1 cup (240 ml) milk 1 tsp vanilla extract 3 cups (375g) flour 2 tsp (10 g) baking powder 1/4 tsp salt For the chocolate batter 3 tbsp (25g) cocoa powder 1/4 cup (50ml) milk 1 tbsp (15g) sugar Directions 1. Grease and line with parchment paper, a 24 cm (9 in) round cake pan. Preheat oven at 180 (350 F. 2. Whisk together in a large bowl the dry ingredients, flour salt and baking powder. Set aside. 3. In another bowl mix the cocoa powder with 1/4 cup milk and 1 tbsp of sugar. 4. Mix butter with sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time and mix until well incorporated. Add vanilla extract. 5. With the mixer on low, alternate adding gradually milk and flour mixture until all is well incorporated. 6. Remove two cups of the batter and mix them with the chocolate mixture. 7. Use one tablespoon for each batter to create the layers of batter on the prepared pan. Begin from the middle of the pan, take one spoon of white batter then over it add a spoon of chocolate batter and repeat this steps until all batter has been used. (If you don't have the patience to make these layers just add one batter on top of the other and create swirls with a knife or fork to create the marbled effect) 8. Bake for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. 9. Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes on a cooling rack before removing from the pan. 10. Serve as it is or top with chocolate glaze.

Hi. I madr this cake today bt had a small problem. the batter looked a bit curdled after beating butter n sugar. And even after adding cocoa it was still the same (curdled look) but no bad smell. vanilla batter was thick n cocoa batter was bit runny. cudnt make the zebra pattern though. cake came out soft but the top was a bit sticky. Can u help me where I went wrong? Plzz.

Thank you for this recipe Finally tried to bake this yesterday and it turned out pretty well - me and my parents liked it a lot. The cake looks a bit intricate but is fairly easy to make at the same time (believe me as I'm not too experienced in baking. It isn't too sweet but I even liked that, guess I will try to make it sometime with chocolate on top as you suggested.

I made it today. The texture is soft and spongy and the flavour is nice, not too strong in chocolate just nice. I thought my cake was ruined because before adding the milk and flour, the mixture started to curdle. Anyway I read on the internet that it was not a problem and so I just added the milk and flour and it turned out just perfect. Thanks

Tried this today. It turned out great. Although I made it in an 9inch sqaure pan. Thankyou so much. Just one question please. Can I half the ingredients to make a small cake? If yes then what would be the timings and size of pan?

There's a slight hitch in the measurement, due to which the flour taste was over empowering. In recipe, you have used 1 cup sugar (200g. so how can 3 cups of flour be (375g) if we are using the same measuring cups?

I would love to try this recipe, however here in Ireland we have two typed of flour, Self Raising flour and Plain Flour. Could someone one tell me which is used in this recipe? Thank you for reading my comment.

I just made this cake and this recipe is amazing Easy, tasty and very light. I think it could've used a tiny bit more sugar but otherwise it's delicious. Thank you for the awesome recipe

I just had to toss this cake in the dustbin. It turned out dense, dry, and tasted only of sugar. Most disappointing of your recipes so far but I do love your chocolate banana bread
