Maunika s back FoodTubers with this beautifully spiced Vegetarian jalfrezi recipe. Paneer cheese dry fried with cumin, turmeric, chilli and crisp slices of green pepper. This dish is so simple to make and so tasty even meat eaters will be glad they gave it a go. For a delicious mango and saffron lassi

No salt, did not put that much jhaal or chili as per the name jhalfrezi I think, ginger added much later, it could taste or smell like raw ginger, I do not understand how these cookes becomes celebrities, and not the excellent cooks of the general restaurants where the food is really delicious and we revisit those eateries again & again, and donot ever bother to know the names of those unnamed unsung excellent poor cooks!

Paneer is a great cheese, I bought some and tried it on the barbecue as the shop had sold out of Haloumi, It's so less salty and it doesn't melt. It tasted great and absorbed the great smoke taste of lump wood charcoal. BTW why doesn't't harouni and paneer melt? must look that up. This is a nice recipe. I normally have meat Jalfrezi, but I do veggie quite a lot.

I have no idea where to find paneer. I live near 3 different Asian markets but I've never seen it, although they focus mostly on chinese/japanese/filipino/korean foods. They have huge curry selections, just no paneer. I haven't heard of any Indian/middle eastern specific markets in my area.

2 questions: Can i substitute Paneer cheese with haloumi? I've never heard of paneer before I wouldn't know where to buy it in my country. I saw that you sliced the ginger, i either grate it or chop it up reeeeally small. Aren't big chunks of ginger way too flavourfull and hard to chew?

Perfect. Tastes just the way you describe it and easy to make. Softness of paneer, crunchiness of bell pepper and a little tanginess from tomato comes in different packages while eating but even before you realize they mix up nicely. Level of spice can be varied. /

no disrespect to her, she's a great cook got a lot of wonderful recipes but i always find that her knife skills are very poor. she may chop her fingers some day, just check the way she was slicing the onions. fingers were positioned in very chop me friendly manner.

I made this last weekend and it turned out good. The recipe was quick and easy to follow. I also made the naan from Maunikas website which again was quick and simple to make. I had the paneer and 4naans made from start to finish complete in about 30-40mins.
