My treat was a cold biscuit that my grandma would rake a stick her finger into middle and pour in Molasses. Remember many a summer days sitting on her porch with my cousins eating molasses biscuits while she dipped her snuff and spit it into old coffee tins. She would also take a branch from a tree in her yard and knaw one end til it was fanned into a perfect dipper for her snuff

I'm 65 and I was born and raised in Texas! I only have had chocolate gravy one time! And that was when we lived in Bastrop Tx, for about 3 years! Friends of mine mother made it! I have had plenty of SOS, biscuits and gravy made with all kinds of stuff! Except for chocolate! But I can say the one time that I had chocolate gravy it was good! I'm going to have to try this again!

My husband's aunt lived in a hollar in the Missouri Ozarks and she made this all the time. This was back in the 60's and70's. My husband loved it but I couldn't eat it. I don't like chocolate. I do have a good reason. When I was a child the medicine for children was made with a chocolate flavoring that was very bitter. Does anyone else remember it I am 83 now.

Definitely a childhood treat BUT my grandma and mom made traditional biscuit dough, rolled them out and spread the gravy onto the biscuit dough, cut them like cinnamon rolls. All the extra oozing sauce went over the rolls in the pan. They were baked up and served as chocolate rolls. Especially good with a dollop of butter.

It's interesting as it seems to be a thing in only parts of the South. I have spent almost all of my 65 years in Georgia and never heard of it until I started traveling for work to North Alabama where most places seem to have it. They just used normal rolled biscuits rather than drop biscuits though.

Wow, I've never seen a Dutch whisk. How cool and interesting it looks.
I grew up in Dallas, Texas but never had chocolate gravy.
I don't have tik tok but your drop biscuits look beautiful. I'm going to have to try your recipe. I'm really curious to see what my kids think of it too.

I grew up in Arkansas and this was a breakfast every 2 or 3 weeks. As kids we looked forward to it. We split our biscuits and put butter on them, then we topped it with the gravy. This has been around since before my momma was born and I'm 50. I make this for my grandbabies.

Raised in a Southern family, grandma, 2 aunts, & Mom who'd moved West in Dust Bowl. Never had/heard of chocolate gravy. I've lived in the South about 40 years now. First heard of this on YT.
I love biscuits, love chocolate, but this is too high carb.

My mom would make something she called peanut butter sauce. It was made with cocoa powder, sugar and peanut butter cooked in a saucepan. Such a yummy treat. Made this for my children and now that they are grown they make it when they want a taste of home

I am from Kentucky, my mother used to make this for us when we were children, but she used homemade butter in hers, also the vanilla extract, She also made patted layered biscuits instead of just drop biscuits, so delicious!

I grew up in So Cal and my best friend's mom would make chocolate gravy when I stayed overnight at her house. But it was served in bowls and we dipped soft, white Wonder bread in it. YUM!

Grew up with biscuits & chocolate gravy. Arizona, Oklahoma, always a family favorite. You must have a big pat of butter on the biscuit before pouring on the gravy!

Indiana here with a grandma from Arkansas. I grew up on this. The only thing I'd suggest different is adding a pat of butter to the top of the gravy. It's amazing!

I grew up with German parents, and as a special treat we would have Dampfnudels (a sweet, steamed, yeast dumpling) with a similar chocolate sauce! Delicious!
