I made HEB Butter Tortillas from scratch Soft Flour Tortillas Recipe

Today I am recreating those addictive HEB grocery store butter tortillas. These soft butter tortillas are perfect for breakfast tacos. Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 cup powdered milk 2 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 tsp salt 1/3 cup butter-flavored shortening (or real butter) 1 cup plus 1 Tbsp hot water 1 tsp imitation butter flavor (optional) add the imitation butter extract to the water Emily: If one stick of butter = 1/2 cup, the amount you put in was 1/3 of 1/2 cup or 1/6 cup- NOT 1/3 cup. If this is what you intended based on what you showed in the video (which was different from what you said to do) you might want to change the recipe instructions which say to use a whole 1/3 cup of butter/shortening or 2/3 of a stick. Just thought I should mention it so you can clarify which it is.

Never had that brand, but these look and sound yummy!
You mentioned doing a previous recipe for these tortillas on TikTok. so, which recipe did you like best? (If the answer is this one, ignore my next question since it wouldn't be necessary. Do you plan to post the other variation on yt as well)

I have utilized your tortilla recipe several times, not this particular recipe but an earlier one you videoed. I alternated between cool, luke warm, and nearly boiling water to mix the dough and found that the hotter the water, the softer and more pillowy the tortillas turned out.

I happen to love the original recipe for flower tortillas that has been passed down for generations. Flour, salt, manteca, and warm water - no baking powder in my family's recipe. HEB flour tortillas are ok but homemade is better. IMO.

My family made the best tortillas ever and I haven't been able to recreate them yet. I won't use crisco because it's not healthy, so I'll try it with butter. Do you think they would turn out good with beef tallow?

For the longest time here in Fort Worth we only had Central Market. Any time we went there we got the tortillas. Now we have an HEB about 40 minutes away so we get the same tortillas but just slightly closer now lol.

I ve never clicked on a video so fast.
We are in a different state now. We brought back 30 packs of tortillas when we last visited and we are down to our last pack. So I ll definitely be trying this recipe.

Why do you think your shortening was better than your video using butter? Would ghee work better than butter? I know butter may be used, I just want to follow your recipe to make them best for my Texas hubby.

Not a fan of the butter flavor tortillas. I always buy the plain. I even make a note for Curbside asking them not to confuse the butter with the regular.
