Not hating on the west or anything, correct me if I am wrong or if i am being biased. But i have seen, both in my experience and through secondary sources, that the west, especially the main countries and the other parts of the world are very different in terms of treating foriegners. The non west tends to be welcoming and adoring the guests, they are really happy to recieve them as if they are one of their own, they really take you to the very lives of theirs. But in contrast, the west doesn't usually do that. As in they tend to like have a superior mentality over the others. I understand it to be a combination of various factors including the west x non-west narrative based on the progressiveness or the development ideals. I know i moght be over generalizing. I dont know! What do you guys think

Hi Mark, im egyptian, Hajouja does not mean aunt, Hajouja comes from the word Hajjah which literally means the person who went on Hajj in Mecca, but in Egypt we do not mean this meaning, it is mostly said to the elderly to respect them, a man is Hajj and a woman is Hajjah, Hajouja is like a pet name for Hajjah. You will also notice that the restaurant is designed in a way that preserves the Egyptian identity. The towers that you see are pigeon towers, which is a famous thing in Egypt. They are in this form in the Delta among farmers and in Upper Egypt as well. In Cairo and the cities, they take a wooden form. A wooden tower is built on top of residential buildings and it becomes a pigeon tower in which a person raises pigeons and trains them to fly and return home. It is a hobby that we love.

So love this series. I went solo travelling down the Nile from Cairo to Abu Simbel about 20 years ago and remember that first place! First time trying falafel and it was good. If you love history, food, culture and nature it is a great place to visit.
The Egyptian people are nice. I didn't like the hagglers that follow you to sell you things but they do leave you alone if you say no thank you politely and walk away, a bit like any tourist destination.
This is a stark difference to when Sonny went and wondered what the difference was Was it because he is American

I've traveled from South to North in Egypt. Everybody makes something as simple as Falafel totally different. Even in a city like Alexandria, everyone has their own spin on making it. You can ask, Where did you learn to make this It's always a family member who showed them how to make it. That duck looks so divine! I love Egyptian style pickles. Egyptian bread is amazing. Again, bread in southern Egypt tastes different from northern bread. I would love a huge plate of bread from Egypt right about now. It is divine!

Egyptian food looks delicious and healthy too, breakfast food that is not expensive, but spiced well and transformed into very delicious food, smart cooking. The method of cooking shawarma adds to the flavour of meat & vegetables, so delicious. Lamb along with the cream rice looks Wow, it's been said that before an exam a meal including beef brain is helpful.

Just my own opinion
But Egyptian food is pretty weak more like snacks
On a global scale

But they do have the Pyramids
And a bunch of people just waiting to rip you off
Once again my opinion and the reason I will never go back
So don’t hate me for my opinion
I mean not disrespect

17: 50 This is the Egyptian version of Moussaka. While it is often attributed to Greek and Turkish cuisine, its origins are actually Egyptian. Even the name Moussaka remains unchanged from Arabic, meaning the cool dish, as Egyptians traditionally prefer to eat it cold after refrigerating it.

Mark is using that same old default face to make us believe the food he's eating is awesome. In reality, Egyptian so-called cuisine is plain terrible and unhealthy. If you are truly keen on enjoying Arab food there are three destinations: Iraq, Lebanon, and Algeria/Morocco.

7: 14 (sandwiches) And you did not have 'pharaoh's revenge' (as we call something like stomach flu in Poland) after fresh vegetables/fruits As far as I know, the only cure is strong alcohol before and after a meal.

As an Egyptian living abroad, these videos bring me so much joy and pride! Thank you, Mark, and all the wonderful and kind Egyptians in the video for sharing this beautiful energy. Keep up the amazing work!

The only thing I like more than the fact that they are only wearing gloves when serving the food whilst the whole process is glove-free is the fact they loudly shout (spit) over my food whilst serving
reply

Mark, I think you need to do more in Eastern Europe. Try out cevapi in Bosnia, Serbia, and Romania. And have you had the mixed grill in Athens But I have to say, this Egyptian stuff is beautiful!
reply

ah man. I am an Egyptian living in London and you made me feel really nostalgic: ') I am so glad you enjoyed the food there. thank you for your kindness and wonderful cheerful personality!
reply

Wow! Mark you are the ultimate ambassador of food. This is one of the best food videos I’ve ever seen, truly a masterpiece. I’m very hungry now and have reconsidered visiting Egypt.
reply

Beside the food, not all but many of the Egyptian people will try to scam foreigners, especially who would like to visit the the famous sites of Egypt, very sad but true.
reply

I’m Egyptian and I’d like meet you, Mark. I’ve been following you for 5 years now and you’re such an inspiration. It’s so great to have you back in Egypt.
reply

I believe that you should be mentioning the price of these meals as it is very very cheap compared to the same quality and quantity in other countries
