Located in Silom, Som Tam Jay So ) is one of my new favorite restaurants in Bangkok to eat som tam (green papaya salad. More on (coming soon) Silom is one of the biggest downtown and financial districts of Bangkok, and there are many good restaurants and street food stalls. And along with that, youll find an abundance of Isaan (northeastern Thailand) restaurants and street food stalls throughout Bangkok but not all of them are that good. One day, while in Silom during lunch, Ying and I stopped at a place called Som Tam Jay So ) to eat some different types of Thai green papaya salad, and a few of their other specialities. It turned out to be some of the best som m, green papaya salad, that Ive had in a long time in Bangkok. Its now one of my favorite street food restaurants in Bangkok. Here are the dishes we ordered: Som tam sua ) - This is a green papaya salad with rice vermicelli noodles it. It also included a variety of other vegetables, plus lots of chilies, and fermented fish sauce. It was absolutely stunning. Tam ba ) - For another plate of green papaya salad, we got the tam ba, jungle style, with a big mixture of different ingredients, and again flavored heavily with fermented fish sauce. It was again incredibly delicious, unbelievably good. Bik gai yang ) - Another thing they are famous for serving at Som Tam Jay So ) is grilled chicken wings. And the wings were so golden and crispy looking, that if it wasnt for them telling me they were grilled I would have thought they were deep fried. The chicken wings were excellent, with flavor going all the way to the bone. Kaw moo yang ) - I wasnt planning on ordering the fatty grilled pork neck, but when I saw it in the cabinet waiting to be served, I had to order it. The pork neck was absolutely incredible - it was tender and juicy, and you could really taste the grilled smoky flavor. Tom Saeb moo ) - One of the popular soups in Isaan is tom Saeb moo, a meaty and sour soup. This was pretty good, nice and spicy, and slightly sour with lots of meat and various pieces of intestine and other things in it. Laab neau ) - The laab neau, minced meat salad, was also incredibly delicious, with just the right flavor and plenty of chilies. Khao neow ) - Finally, no Isaan meal can be eaten without sticky rice. Som Tam Jay So ) Address: Soi Piphat 2, Silom, Bangkok 10500 Open hours: 8: 30 am - 4: 30 pm daily 2 10500 . 085-999-4225 8. 30 - 16. 30. Total price for everything we ate - 339 THB Som Tam Jay So ) serves some of the most authentic and best Isaan food and green papaya salad that Ive had in Bangkok

The dishes look very appetizing although I have a couple of questions. The first is: how would a novice to Thai cuisine tolerate the huge quantity of chiles? And don't they hurt later? I have had delicious Thai cuisine in Mexico and elsewhere, but never at the level of chili heat shown here. The other question is in regard to fermented fish entrails. I imagine that they are salted, or else they would rot and make you sick. On second thought, some of those dishes seem to be an umami bomb.

Mark. I'm so mad at you and Ying. You guys have ruined 'Thai' food for me for ever Just kidding. but seriously, I've tried eating Thai back in London like 3 times since our trip and I just keep wishing it will be as good as all the things we ate but nothing compares Thank you for taking us to this place. It's one of my favourite memories. Loved watching this vid now having been there. What a great little restaurant. Love you and Ying and my buddy Micah - Love, Pooshi and James.

Hi Mark, I found that place from another person's blog. You should warn people, that place is like a sauna. Food there is epicThe lady in the front I'd in charge and she's super nice and the staff will help you the best they can. Tell them not to make it too spicy. Not all of us can handle their spices like Mark. It's a bit of a walk from Silom. Get you google maps ready.

I've been watching your videos so often lately You inspire me to try new foods. I'm usually the type of person that eats one same dish at any restaurant. Once I find something good I never try anything new again. Since watching your videos I'm excited to try new foods I dream to visit Bangkok one day and try the crazy good looking food.

Mark, please tell about the rice types. It seems to be kept like a huge secret as nobody explained how to choose rice. When you come to the market how do you choose - is it a brand? As I understand it is a matter of place so there is no any recommendation or general rule to apply when choosing rice.

Going here for the second time, twice in a week. I had a hard time finding soi phipat 2 though, took a few tries. The easiest way to find it is to go to the Chong Nonsi BTS platform, find the 7-11 underneath. Follow the soi next to 7-11 and walk down a couple blocks and it's on the left.

I'm not a fan of tripe or liver but you made it sound so good i'm going to have to try it. I'm going to Thailand in Nov and staying around the corner from Som Tam Jay So so I can't wait to eat there and so many other places in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Thank you.

You tested the broth after your first bite? I can't deal with this lack of continuity Just kidding, laughing out loud(that's right, I spelled it. Great job, like when you got your little outtakes reel in the end too Thanks Mark and Ying.
