Fish head curry in Singapore is one of the absolute best things to eat when you visit. Ying and I landed in Singapore, and we quickly stopped at our hotel to drop off our main bigger bag, and then after that we headed straight to Little India to eat at The Banana Leaf Apolo, which is one of the legendary restaurants in Singapore that serves the dish. Fish head curry has an interesting and unique history in Singapore its said that there was an Indian chef who had a group of Chinese customers that he needed to cook for. He knew the fish head was a delicacy in Chinese culture, and so he decided to cook a fish head, but use Indian style curry. His idea went perfectly, so perfectly that today its one of the main iconic dishes in Singapore, and its the single handed dish that I would go straight from the airport in Singapore just to eat - which is exactly what we did. The Banana Leaf Apolo is a longstanding south Indian restaurant in Singapore, and although they now have a couple of branches, the old main branch is in Little India along Race Course Road. They have a full menu of different Indian dishes and they also have a cabinet full of pre-cooked dishes to order as well, but it wouldnt be right to go there and not eat fish head curry. There were a couple of different fish head sizes, but I couldnt resist ordering the biggest size. The fish head curry was excellent, and it wasnt too oily or rich. Instead, it was almost like an incredibly spice filled broth, it was both thin and flavorful, and it went extremely well with the soft red snapper head of the fish. Im a huge fan of fish head curry in Singapore, and The Banana Leaf Apolo does a very good version of it. The Banana Leaf Apolo Address: 54 Race Course Rd, Singapore 218564 Open hours: 10: 30 am - 10: 30 pm daily Prices: Full menu range of prices, we had the large fish head curry and a few other dishes for 61. 10 SGD (42. 57 USD) How to get there: The restaurant is located in Little India, about a 5 minute walk from Little India MRT station

My favourite place to eat for authentic Indian food The fish head curry is the bomb You forgot to order the fried fish cake, that is really good My dad brought me here since I was little and we went there again after I had my son. It has been years and it's always my go to restaurant for really delicious Indian cuisine. For Malay food, you should try Hajah Maimunah Restaurant located beside Joo Chiat Complex. They have all sorts of Malay dishes but it can be as costly as Banana leaf apolo. It's worth every penny for delicious food Something you can't find elsewhere is Chilli Crab with fried mantou and Tulang merah (red bones) indian dish at beach road. It's only available in Singapore. :)

The real story about the invention of fish head curry. It was back in the 1950s at a Chinese coffee shop along Selegie Road. There was an indian who was selling Indian food there. After sometime he decided to leave but the Chinese coffee shop owner decided to make curry(after absorbing curry skills because of its popularity. Being Chinese he decided to make curry using fish head. For a few years the only fish head curry was available there. I ate there in the early 70s

Mark I heard a different story about the history of fish head curry it was a man went into an indian restaurant to eat & asked for a fish curry but the owner never had any of the fish left but just the head so he served the man that & he loved it so much that he told everyone about it & they too went into the same restaurant asking for the same dish & it took off from there, However it started it sounds like a beautiful dish, Keep up the great video's mate.

Fish head curry is also very popular in Malaysia. Not sure if it is created in Singapore or Malaysia. Singapore used to be part of Malaysia. As such, many Singaporeans have relatives and close family ties in Malaysia. Not surprisingly, the demographics are very similar. Food is also more or less the same if you have not already noticed. Great video and love watching them especially your for the extremely spicy food.

Fish head is actually a pretty staple affair in the Eastern part of India, especially Bengal and Assam. One of Bengal's signature dishes is a Muri Ghonto, which is a slow cooked fish head curry with spices, lots of dried chillies, hot pepper and and some puffed rice. We also have fish head with Moong Dal, which is basically pulses cooked with a slightly pre-fried Fish Head, with condiments.

Mark WiensFish head is very common thing in our Bengali Cuisine i. e in West Bengal, India. We eat it in many forms: deep fried, curries, mixed with bottle gourd curries and many more. Its a delicacy and also considered to bring lucky (that is the whole fish though. We also make one dish, known as murighonto, in which we look the rice and fish together with lots of spices. yummy

I love curry. I make the best coconut curry soup and the best chicken curry. I never tried fish curry but I will make after seeing this. Speaking of seeing, I have 2 eyes and don't need another. Watching you pick apart the eyeball and goop is gross. All looked perfect except the eye and I certainly would not eat the eye. Great video. Keep up the good work.
