Mansaf is the ultimate Jordanian food you should try: Considered the national dish of Jordan, and a dish that nearly every Jordanian loves, you are bound to taste Jordan with every bite of mansaf you taste. This was my first time to ever try mansaf, and I was so happy and excited, it was incredible. What is mansaf? Mansaf ) is a Jordanian food that consists of three main things: rice, lamb, and jameed. The rice is often cooked with turmeric to give it a yellow color, and the lamb is cooked in jameed, and then more jameed is served on the side as a sauce for the rice and lamb. Finally, the lamb and rice is topped with a handful of fried nuts, either pine nuts or sliced almonds, and the full meal is then served with a variety of fresh vegetables like onions and arugula. What is jameed? Jameed is a type of goat yoghurt that is dried and fermented and made into a hard ball shape. Its traditionally prepared by Bedouins in the desert who preserve the goat milk by making it into jameed so that it lasts for a long time and can be used slowly. If you visit a Bedouin tent or village, youll often see balls of jameed resting on the roof of the tent, drying in the hot sun. For mansaf, the jameed is re-hydrated and made into a sauce, and it gives the unique signature taste and richness of the dish. I had my first taste of jameed, and it was amazing. You can really taste the goat and taste the pastures and grass and shrubs that the goats have eaten in every bite. It definitely has a bit of a meaty taste to eat. Along with mansaf being an incredibly delicious food, one of the great things about it are all the traditions and customs that come along with eating it. Its a typical food to eat at Jordanian festivals and celebrations. The mansaf is served on a big tray, and everyone stands around the tray, taking bites with their right hand. You pick up some rice with lamb, and douse it in jameed, then roll it into a ball shape in your palm, making sure theres some lamb in the middle of the rice and that the entire mansaf ball is held together with jameed. One you have a ball ready, you drop it into your mouth, making sure you dont touch your lips so that you dont contaminate your fingers - then you repeat again. Once you are finished eating, you can then lick your fingers clean, and its acceptable, thats pretty cool Tawaheen Al Tawa Restaurant - To eat mansaf in Amman, Jordan, we went to one of the most famous restaurants in the city, Tawaheen Al Tawa, a huge restaurant institution in Jordan. The restaurant serves all sorts of delicious Jordanian and Arabic foods, and they especially specialize in mansaf and bbq meats - we had the mansaf. Our tray came out, a pile of rice topped with a heap of lamb, and side bowls of jameed. The combination of the dish, and the method of eating it, made it one of the most memorable meals I ate when I was in Jordan. Now i can conclude why most middle eastern people (especially arab) have a very messy way of eating by hands because EVERY time i go to an arabic restaurant no matter which arab country it is, they tend to eat and left the table so messy with all the rices on the table. Im an mix race of arab and malay race. So i would strongly prefer to eat by hand the malaysian/indonesian way because we are also traditionally(till now prefer) to eat with our bare hands. That right there is a mess my friend. Not to upset anyone but it is what it is.

You are a wonderful person in the expression of Jordan and I like you too. You have liked the many mansaf. It really is really delicious. It contains a really full fat and its taste is more than wonderful. Those who have not tried it may regret it. Haha. Coffee is also one of the traditions of the Jordanian people after the meal. I would go to Jordan just to see that tour guide, he was gorgeous. I would love to visit Jordan, looks like an amazing place, I would love to go to most places I watch Mark visit. I love watching them get so involved in other people's culture and the way they live. I think that is what is special about these uploads, it's not just showing you food and different parts of the world it is showing you culture and more often food and culture are interwoven.

What you have spent 10 days eating chickpeas and tahini in Jordan without trying Mansaaf You have been betrayed my friend. Fadi betrayed you, depriving you from the joy of eating Mansaf for 9 days. If you think about it, drying/dehydrating yogurt was used before refrigerator to preserve it, then dissolving it with meat soup basically the liquid is condensed yogurt with water replaced with meat soup, just think about that.

Oh dear The Prophet ( peace be to him) recommended eating with three fingers so that we may avoid stuffing too much food into our mouth, in order to chew it properly and not harm the throat and oesophagus. It seems that people have found a way to shovel big portions of food into their mouths by picking up as much food as possible and making it into a ball. Goodness me Humans never fail to amaze me.

FYI, Mansaf, Rashoof and Gee Shrak are the only authentic Jordanian dishes. Most of the foods that Mark had in Jordan are originally from other countries: Palastine (such as falafel, Fool 'Fava beans' and maqloobah. Etc), Turkey (e. g. Shawarma, kebab. Etc), Yemen (zarb, Lebanon (Hummus) and Syria (Kibbeh.

Does anyone really eat mansaf in the traditional way? I eat it with my hands and most of my family members do, but using three fingers and all of this rules no one really follows it.
