Indonesian food is amazing, and Ayam Taliwang will ignite your tastebuds Read more about Ayam Taliwang Rinjani here: Subscribe for more food: When I was in Jakarta, one of the Indonesian dishes I was recommended to try wat Ayam Taliwang, a type of grilled chicken that originates from the island of Lombok, and is famous for being incredibly spicy. When I heard grilled chicken and incredibly spicy, I knew ayam bakar Taliwang was something I needed to eat. In Jakarta, I searched and found a restaurant called Ayam Taliwang Rinjani, and so one day for lunch my wife and I headed over there little did I know I would have a near life changing grilled chicken experience. There were a couple of different types of grilled chicken you could order, including a sweet version, a spicy version, and the extra super pedas spicy version. We ordered one of each - the chickens were spring chickens so they were small and you can easily eat one or two whole chickens yourself. At the front of Ayam Taliwang Rinjani, they had a glass cabinet full of partially grilled chickens. Then as soon as you order, they take a chicken, cover it in whatever sauce you chose, and then put it back on the grill. The super extra pedas (meaning super extra spicy, was dunked in a bucket of sambal chili sauce and oil, and then put on the grill. When it was finished, there was literally about a 1 cm thick coating of chilis all over the chicken. Ayam bakar Taliwang proved to be one of my ultimate favorite Indonesian dishes. The chicken itself was extremely flavorful and bursting with juices, and because it was grilled on a high heat it additionally had a nice flame flavor. But the greatest thing about the chicken was the incredible amount of chilies piled on top. tiap negara itu punya jenis cabe yg berbeda. Saya pernah tinggal sebulan di Thailand dan suatu ketika merasa cabe di sana gak ada yang lebih pedas dibanding cabe rawit setan. Saya didampingi teman yg sdh tinggal di sana 8 tahun dan beli nasi goreng Thailand, saya merasa nasi gorengnya tidak pedas sama sekali, saya minta ditambahi cabe yg pedas (bentuknya mirip cabe rawit tp lebih panjang, masih kurang pedas juga dan akhirnya saya bilang cabenya tambah lagi yg banyak. Sy saat itu tetap merasa kurang pedas. Tapi begitu sampai hotel pulang makan, pedas itu rupanya baru bereaksi, dari mulut sampai ke lambung. Bibir jeding. perut kembung, badan keluar keringat, bolak-balik kamar mandi. reaksi cabe itu baru reda jam 10 malam. Begitu pula ketika di Korea ada rekan yg disoraki makan cabe ijo besar dalam mangkuk. jumlahnya sekitar 5 besar-besar. Saya awalnya mikir cabe ijo semua sama dan gak ada yg pedas. Tapi rupanya dugaan saya salah, jenis cabe ijo yg lg dimakan itu memang benar-benar pedas melebihi rawit, saya coba makan sebiji saja kewalahan, jujur gak sanggup saya. padahal makan cabe rawit gemuk 10 biji dgn tahu satu sama sekali gak soal di sini. jadi gak usahlah takabur merasa kita sbg orang yg paling kuat pedas

Bro am here again. If u only knew Ayam Taliwang food would be good enough if you have it from the origin- u would probably say. how i wish i had known it before. Am only hoping that your future blogs would show more places in one time. That only means i would utilize more of your time. I have a bad experience with this chicken. One time I was at this Lombok beach, and I ate Ayam Bakar Taliwang. I didn't know it was THAT SUPER SPICY that I really really really had to go to the toilet after I ate it. But UNFORTUNATELY there's no toilet in that area, sooo I had to concentrate while the driver drove so fast to find the nearest restaurant. The end.

Hey, Mark. One question. What do you think of MSG ( Monosodium Glutamate ) since it is quite an issue here in Asia ( particularly in Indonesia. I understand that MSG is to enhance the umami taste. But, even a small intake of it can cause harm to one's body ( so they say. Thnks.

Yeah mark, you should visit the source habe it in the next level, nasi padang in padang city, ayam taliwang in lombok, sambal rica in sulawesi. And if u want to experience fussion of malay-dayak-chinese u need to visit west kalimantan. Bravo

I believe you Mark when you say the chicken is hot and spicy. I grew up in Jakarta and I have to bring a towel if I eat there because I will be sweating lol That is the best way to eat, with your hand
