Well, Bhutan doesnt really have much street food, but Tibetan Uncle is about as close to the street food atmosphere in Thimphu as you can get, and its amazing. : On Day 11 of our food and travel trip to Bhutan, we were in Thimphu. We met up with Matt for breakfast and he took us to a place he named Tibetan Uncle, a friendly uncle who makes an assortment of Bhutanese and Tibetan food. The little restaurant is as local and street food style as you can get in Thimphu, tucked in a tiny little room at the back of a strip mall. Tibetan Uncle (Peace Restaurant) - Order anything he has for the day, everything is good at Tibetan. The momos and chili sauce were amazing, and the beef phingsha and Tibetan food curry and ting momos were delicious. Zombala Restaurant - One of the first restaurants in all of Bhutan is Zombala restaurant, located in the heart of Thimphu. They specialize in light meals like momos, fried rice, and chow mein. The momos were again excellent. Bhutan Kitchen Restaurant - For dinner we went to Bhutan Kitchen restaurant, another traditional Bhutanese food restaurant in Thimphu. For traditional Bhutanese food, I thought this was one of the better sit down restaurants in Thimphu. Disclosure: It was an honor to be invited by MyBhutan to visit Bhutan to explore Bhutanese food and culture. To be fair, I've always liked your videos over the years. But sorry to say that this Bhutan series seems made purely for commercial reasons. I have family and friends who have been to Bhutan. Very beautiful and breathtaking. More spiritual rather than food paradise is what I hear. If I stay there for 11 days and have to eat those same dishes over and over again, I think I'd rather eat instant noodles for a change. My perception of food in Bhutan or even in Nepal/Tibet are that they are more practical in nature, due to the climate, soil condition, scarcity and economic reasons etc. Good food I'm sure but not necessarily great. But thanks for the series though I think I'm suffering from fatigue watching the food similarity.

I am very pleased to see that u are enjoying ur visit there. I would recommend if u want to go on a morning jog or just a relaxing walk to go to a near by river near the national soccer stadium.

Hi Mark, I am fan of your videos. However, I feel you should more concentrate on food rather than your obsession for chillies. I am personally very fan of spicy food but that doesn't mean every dish should have only that component to qualify as a great dish. In case you see my point please do consider it in your next videos

We get excellent momos in Thimphu, actually Peace Restaurant is the best, but it lacks space, Second best is Kuenga Momo with Zombala in the third place. I was looking forward to some good momos in Dharamsala but their momo turned out to be the worst I ever had. Maybe I missed the right place during my weeklong sojourn there.

Isnt it basic decency to show the face of those who are serving you? I see that the face of the girl serving you in the Bhutan Kitchen restaurant, was kept out of the camera frame. You dont ahve to be in the limelight all the time. Please show some decency and courtesy to those who serve you.

Mark, you should try Momos from Delhi Tibetan Camp. They are the best and there is no comparison at all. But I must agree, those of the restaurants you have been in Bhutan are the best of bests in Bhutan. I really enjoyed watching the videos. Cheers

I wanna' know something Mark, is there any difference in the taste of the same vegetables/roots/other ingredients in different places in the world? Do you get different kinds of flavors of garlic or onion depending on where you travel?
reply

Mark, your videos are a joy to watch. Especially your million dollar expressions. I come here for some vicarious traveling and eating, and it makes my day every time But I seriously have to advise you to go easy on the chili sauce: )
