During our trip to Kushtia we spent an entire day home cooking and it was one of the greatest food days of our trip to Bangladesh. Not only in Bangladesh, but all around the world, the greatest food experiences are often home cooking. Today we re cooking an all out Bangladeshi fish feast from morning to night! When you think about Bangladeshi food, you might think about the rich goat and beef dishes, but really, the most common of all foods that s consumed daily is fish and rice. Bangladesh is blessed with an abundance of river, and seas, and fish is common around the country. So today, we re focusing the entire day on eating Bangladeshi fish dish specialties. In the morning we had day old fermented rice with ilish, the national fish of Bangladesh. Then we went to the Kushtia market and especially headed to the fish market section to buy a variety of different fish to cook for lunch and dinner. Aunty is such an amazing cook, she s the person you want to be cooking for you when you re in Kushtia! I loved how she s so natural at cooking, from the look in her eyes you can tell that she enjoys cooking and the joy it brings to others. One of my favorite dishes of the entire trip, in all of Bangladesh, is ilish fish cooked with fresh mustard paste and mustard oil. It s like mustard on top of mustard and the pungent flavor is so incredibly tasty when smashed into rice. Another incredibly special day of Bangladeshi food in Bangladesh. Thank you to Rasif s family for the incredibly warm hospitality and delicious food!

We call this the Pazhaya Soru. Pazhaya means old, Soru means rice. It s a simple recipe for a healthy breakfast using leftover rice. it s common dish in South Indian When the rice is fermented overnight its nutrition and the energy contents increase incredibly. It is said best to have it for breakfast as the nutrition will be absorbed into our body to start the day with a boost of energy. It contains B6 and B12 which helps our body to feel refreshed and less tired throughout the day.
When serving fermented rice, use shallots and chilli as the side. We normally let them get soaked along with the rice through the night so the onion and the chilli flavours will get absorbed into the rice giving it an added flavour to Fermented rice is probably the healthiest breakfast you ll want to start your day with. Boosts your body with energy and kick start your day fresh.

Kushtia is actually the marijuana capital of Bangladesh. lol. Kushtia was the home of the prominent 19th century poet, philosopher, song writer and singer Lalon Shah. He kinda was the father of hippie culture. Please check his songs out, they are amazing. Now, every year a festival takes place at Lalon Shah's shrine in Kushtia, all night concerts and weed are the main attractions. Almost everyone who love their music and wacky tobaccy gathers there. I wish you could check that place out and see a different side of Bangladesh.

Love the hospitality, the warmth, the generosity of the host family. Mark you remind us about the goodness of humanity and that we are all one. Great reminder in this time of division and hatred. The hostess is so comfortable in her skin and proud of her food and culture. She is not curating anything for the camera. She is honest and proud of her talent. Love her smile and warmth.

1000 claps and respect to the women who prepared such a wide spread feast through out the day. I'm amazed by your hospitality and humbleness. This shows that even food can bring together different nations. Hats off to your whole family, country and Mark weins to take us through your countries culture and culinary skills.

the leftover rice porridge is very common in India too as breakfast. we add water and some yogurt to the left over rice and leave it on the counter top overnite. morning just add a pinch of salt mash it well and slurp. it is very cooling for the stomach and has millions of probiotics.

I wish he was introduced to Shutki( dried fish) vorta and curries. A majority of people eat it in Bangladesh. I believed he would have loved the strong flavour & smell of it as he's based on Thailand.
