Some people say that the hard-shell taco is sacrilegious. It is not a taco and it is not Mexican they say. But actually, that beautifully crispy and fried tortilla filled with cheddar cheese and lettuce does have a Mexican background and we should be very thankful and proud about it. On this episode, our taco guru Francisco G-mez takes us to the heart of California in search for the best hard-shell in town

Let me clear this up, Most mexicans don't think the hard shell taco (taco dorado) it's a sacrilege, but more so what places like Taco Bell has done to the taco including the rest mutated -Mexican- food on their menu. Hard shell shrimp Tacos like the ones on the last part of this video, that hold a lot of the original flavors and combinations, are a great example of how hard shell taco can be a great taco and can rise above the rest. That taco could be a winner on any food fest or taco competition held in Mexico.

Cielito Lindo is literally just a tourist attraction. Many people go there because of its landmark and the year it was established. But the -taquitos- are not good. Please believe me, there is way better quality food out there. Notice how they just let there food sit in the greasy skillet. If you want BOMB Roll tacos, go to Alberto's in SAN DIEGO! LA Mexican food really doesn't have anything on SD food.

I don-t know why people doubt that the taco -dorado- (or hard shell taco) is Mexican. My mom used to make these for me with -carne molida- when I was a child. And the -taquito- is called a -flauta-, made primarily of corn tortilla but also with flour. The only thing that is probably not Mexican is that crunchy, yellow taco shell from Taco Bell. I don-t even think it-s natural: )

Los Angeles has the 2nd highest concentration of Mexican people outside of Mexico City in the World. I am not Mexican but I am an Angelena and all my my bff's are Mexican American. I appreciate the culture and food. Love L. A and not only do we have awesome Mexican food. We also represent Latin America legit

The most unappetizing episode of the whole series. Hardshell tacos are too reminiscent of fast food tacos to be taken seriously. Flautas are the only hardshells I've ever heard of and I've never tasted a good one at any restaurant in LA. Even Olvera st flautas taste dry and over cooked.

My family ate at Mitlas every sunday from the 60s to about 93, or 94? They said something happened and it wasn't the same. Mitlas catered my grandfather's funeral a few years ago and I thought that they did a great job! Se hacen un jale bien chingasote cabrones! The food was soooooo gooood!

Of course the hard shell taco is as Mexican as the Nopal, I'm 68 years old, and when I was a kid my mother use to make us hard shell tacos with mashed potatoes and ground beef the originals ones my grandmother use to make them for my mom, so hard shell tacos are real mexican

Tacos are different on every state in Mexico. You got flautas, hardshell tacos de papa similar to Mitlas, tacos de frijol and many more versions. Mitlas is an original taco recipe and is best and better than the bell tacos.

Im sorry but a hard shell taco could never even compare to a real taco! Never have i had a hard shell taco that wowd me. Maybe a cheesy gordita crunch but still not close, now if we're talking 'taquitos' that different!
