Chef Lara Lee, author of the cookbook Coconut & Sambal, is making gado gado, a salad that will transport your kitchen to Indonesia. Gado gado, which means mix-mix, is one of the national dishes of Indonesia and per Lara, it s a salad for a very hungry person. This salad can be made with whatever veggies you have in your fridge; Lara makes her with tomatoes, broccolini, green beans, potatoes, and more. She adds pan-fried tempeh, firm tofu, hard-boiled eggs and plenty of other mix-ins. It all comes together with a rich and spicy chili peanut sauce. Check out the recipe here

She's one of those westernized girl who can't say Indonesian words in Indonesian accent. Unlike some girls in Indonesia's capital, they can say words with proper accent but refuse to do so. This girl? Can't even do that

Something missing here, like noodles, boiled kangkong (vegetable, and lontong (steamed rice cake covered with banana leaves.
She made it for casual foreigner taste, maybe. At least she introduced one of Indonesian comfort food. Tasty yet easy to prepare, and of course the price is affordable.

I had it most of time for lunch during break periods when I was in tuition on school holidays. Brought me back.
Also, with peppers like that you're missing out on the real heat, I'd say. You gotta have birds eye.
One more thing, some of those toppings look unorthodox, but you do you.

Wow, I'm from Indonesia and I'm really happy to see this
Even though some people thought she was missing some ingredients, I was still happy. Because I know she has tried his best to make a gado-gado with ingredients that are easy to find there.

Thanks Lara to made gado-gado became famous! I suggest if you wanna called it healthy, you better don t frying the peanuts with oil. Just roasted them or used a butter

Nope. So different with the original gado-gado. Kecap manis is an additional, you can use it or not. And she forgot to added gula jawa.
