The foodie world is ALWAYS evolving. We love trying new flavours and ingredients and we've spotted a fair few unique options recently so it was about time we put a few to the test. Do you reckon these products are a step too far or would you be willing to give them a go? Pretentious or not? YOU DECIDE!

Okay, so. I only discovered Sorted tonight, I have watched the Reviewing Kitchen Gadgets series in its entirety in one sitting and I am now still in the same sitting now making my way through this series.
I'm just gutted I haven't come across you guys sooner. I honestly think using each of these brilliant series as a segment you could create something for television that could compete easily with some of the weekend morning cookery television. You have so much that is better than what we have on TV at the minute. But I am MORE than happy tuning into you guys on YouTube. I honestly think you're brilliant.
Easily my #1 subscription out of all of my YouTube subscriptions. I shall now continue with my SORTEDbinge

New series suggestion: Pretentious or Not. Time to Decide - A challenge to create dishes using the potentially pretentious ingredients James waffled on or has expressed interest in trying out further. A mash-up of Pass It On with a Pretentious Ingredient theme would also be acceptable.
I just nerded out and looked up the etymology of waffle (because, weird word) and want to be clear that I use waffled in the American sense of indecisiveness. The British definition seems to carry a bit more shade and no insult is intended here. I'm not trying to say James is a windbag or something.

The first one is not pretentious AT ALL, black garlic takes time to make, you need to let them rest in a working rice cooker (you can technically make it at home with a rice cooker and that's probably not how they did it) but this process takes way more time and electricity than mass produced tomato ketchup, the fact that it's probably made by an independant company with an original product does make it more expensive and honestly it can be used in so many ways, it's totally worth it! (Sorry for my bad english, englishs)

A salt block isn't pretentious. Making one with Himalayan salt is. Sincerely, Himalayan salt will only provide enough minerals to improve diet if used in large enough amount to get you to the hospital. Are you eating healthily? Then you are ok. Are you not? Then you are possibly eating a lot of salt anyway and substituting it with Himalayan salt will not save your meat.

Would love to see a video of James getting to play with the pretentious ingredients and see what he can come up with and the other guys tasting the dishes not knowing what's in them and judging if they are better than a 'standard' version (like, regular custard vs smoked sugar custard)

that liquorice is a danish brand and its used a lot here. as expensive it is, it is an okay quality and the price seems actually correct compared to Danish market. use it in chocolate, ice cream, cakes, covering chocolate/date balls. These are some of the ones I can think of

I'm surprised no one in the video bothered to mention the danger of cross contamination on that salt block. I mean, you could only use it once for a single meal because how are you going to wash it? 100% pretentious.

1: 35 Original and normal ketchup is not the same today. Seeing that Ketchup was originally made from mushrooms, inspired by south east asian fermented fish sauce condiments, but that is hardly normal today; )

My mom used liquorice powder as an ingredient in the base layer of a cheesecake which was really nice! Not really pretentious to me, but very niche and arguably a bit expensive for what it is.
