How to Water Containers Garden Answer Ellen: Hi, Thank you for your videos? I am a beginning gardener. You address HOW to water a little but Im wondering how important it is not to water the tops of the plants. especially with flowers. Sometimes it's hard to avoid that especially when the pots are very full. Also obviously when it rains the water hits the tops of the plants. Are some flowers more delicate than others? I had Nemesia which seemed so delicate, but I always watered with a can getting the tops and they seemed fine, while others like Geraniums seemed very important to avoid getting the water on the flower. So anyway. if you could just do a video on watering technique, which may seem very obvious to some. I'd love that!

I finally got all of my pots on my irrigation timer. I put a low pressure valve in and ran 3/4 pvc pipe to different locations in my yard and stubbed up. I used this to attach my 1/2 drip irrigation line and from that I put in my 2 gph emitter and ran my 1/4 emitter line from the emitter in through the bottom drain hole in my pot and out above my soil. Now I can set my timer to water as needed. I control the amount of water by the size of emitter I put in. I love it, it frees me completely from hand watering.

Hi Laura! Another great video. I have always used clay pots as they are best for drainage and give the roots more air. Recently I've been having back issues and I wanted to get some lighter pots. I just couldn't get myself to buy the plastic though! What are your thoughts on this?

So Laura. yesterday I was watering my cans and thought, gosh I wish Laura would do a video on how to water, should just water roots. only and not the plants? etc. so yeah you answered everything. Thanks for all the videos, I love them all and look for them everyday!

Super helpful! Now I have the answers I had about my tomatoes getting a mildew on them. If I have a raised planter (I have a Vegtrug) and I feel the soil is still really moist to touch should I still be consistently watering every day?

In the evening as the sun wanes i water then, and yet there is enough sun and daylight to dry on the leaves, so that as darkness falls the leaves are nice and dry and not inviting those snails and slugs to feast overnight.

Stuff like this is super helpful. I appreciate it when you break down what seems simple. Helps me to establish a better gardening foundation as I figure all this out.

So helpful! Thank you very much! Maybe you could do more tutorial type videos like this one for some special plants or plants that require particular care! Thanks again!
