Storm Cloud Bluestar Amsonia Garden Answer MrILoveTheAnts: I love Amsonia but prefer A. hubrichtii. They have narrow like leaves similar to a pine tree and three great big plants placed right by one another create this beautiful soft cloud that looks comfortable enough to lay on. It's a herbaceous perennial though so don't do that. The fall color is usually more striking with a brilliant shade of yellow. The Amsonia you have up there is A. tabernaemontana which has showier flowers and are more frequently a deeper blue and thicker petals I wish A. hubrichtii had.

Hi Laura, I am really glad you have planted Amsonia. I have 2 shrubs that I started from seeds. The main reason I wanted them is for their bright yellow fall colour. The blue blooms are short in my opinion (2 weeks) I grow them for fall colour. So make sure you don't cut the plants down after flowering but let them mature into golden colour in the fall.

I like your new statue water feature. In the garden tours that area was empty. Can wait to see it with water in it. As for the new plant, it is a spring flower so what will it look like in the summer? What's your summer interest going to be?

We just moved into our brand new house, put a lot of money into our hardscaping and now for the plants! The builders put plants in the front yard, but they are basically four rows of the same plants in each row. blah! Any suggestions?

can you make a video on extreme heat climates. We get tripple digit weather for 3-4 months of the year with no humidity and that is never addressed in plant tags. I dont want all of my plants to die in a month or two.

I'm adding Amsonia to my list. Could you do a vlog of pollinator garden (honey bees / butterflies? I have beehives and planted a 'bee garden', but I need more ideas. I'm in southern NH - Zone 5. Love the vlogs. :)

I have this plant in Maryland that is no maintenance other than cutting back in the fall or spring. So pretty in arrangements. Grows exactly 3 x 3. Im sure yours will be beautiful if the gophers dont get them!

You said this is a perennial but looks like a shrub. Can it be cut to the ground in the fall? If so will it grow to its mature height and width in one season? Thanks and love your gardens!

I do love the blue color on this plant. Do you know if it blooms more than just spring? Will have to check these out at our garden center. As always, thanks for sharing this beautiful plant.
