Great video, throughout the demonstration I was wondering if Aaron had a suit on, so kudos to him. most hives are lost in the first year due to starvation and predators. My favorite strategy for starting a colony is not harvesting their honey for the first year and feeding them during the winter. Each location is unique for predators. Chicken wire works well in my case. Liked!

Great Video Laura, as you know I will be doing this in the future so it was a good intro for me. I am most interested in what happens next. Once those frames are full how do you swap them out and do you take all or just some of the honey and when do you do that?

My dads allotment plot came with an old, active hive & I'm gutted I live so far away & cant learn beekeeping! I'm hoping he gets a new hive for them, even if he doesn't keep them for honey it's so important to help our lovely bees

Fascinating! My granddad raised bees. I'd go out with him to collect honey. he had me crouch down in the field and told me the bees would think I was a flower! I was very little. Never saw how hives were set up. Thank you!

Thank u for this. ive been toying with the idea of getting bees. what do you think of a system like flowhive? i like the minimal invasivenes when collecting honey though i would still regularly inspect my bees.

If you don't have any lucky with these lil guys you should try a Flow Hive - my parents have one. It works a treat and getting the honey is super easy! Their bees are so happy and thriving: -) cheers Chloe
