5 Awesome Shrubs for Fall Color Garden Answer handmade: Oak leafed hydrangeas are native to my area, here in northern Florida, but only in certain specific locations. There is a state park in a next door town called Torreya State Park. This is where the oak leafed hydrangeas grow nearest to my town, as well as some evergreen trees that are the park's namesake. That park is the only place in the state of Florida where they grow as far as I can remember. And they only grow in one other small section of the US, as well as a couple of other rare places in the world. The Florida ones have been plagued with some type of slow-acting disease for decades, and most of the trees, which are few, don't grow well at all, and will eventually die. The University of Florida in Gainesville has researched and studied and tried various methods over the last several decades to try and save these rare native trees, but to no avail. They are sometimes called the gopher wood tree, and some think that the ones near the middle east/Africa area were what Noah used to build the ark, but who really knows. And yes, getting back to the oak leafed hydrangeas, the native ones that you can buy occasionally at nurseries near where I live, as well as the more exotic types that are mentioned on this video, are really nice plants to use in the landscape. Thanks

Hi Laura I have a question. my grandma had a shrub Bush in her yard, she always called it an old fashioned shrub Bush, I dont know if that's the correct name
I haven't been able to come across it any where
It was about 6 to 8 feet tall as I remember and probably 5 or 6 ft wide and the leaves deep green and would turn a deep burgundy in fall it also got a flower which looked like a crimson spider shape lol only way I can describe it
She would put them in sashay bags to put in her dresser drawers
Please Laura if you know or can find out what the name of it is
I would love to get one
Thank you I love your videos your very talented and knowledgeable

Hey Laura, I've been watching you for some time and finally got inspired enough to get busy with my own project. Landscaping my front and back yard. Huge task but im up for the challenge. I realize your a busy gal and you don't have a lot of time for one on one conversations. That said im just gonna send questions, maybe pics of things im nit sure of or wanting to try to see if im doing it right. Any comments or suggestions would be much aporecisted.

Hello I'm trying to find out what kind of bush I have how can I show you a picture of it. I have always watched others homes with this in front but I wouldn't stop and ask them but this lady was outside and I asked her she didn't know but said I could have it. Could you help me find a way to send you a picture of it so you can tell me something about it? Please

Could you do a video on how to plan a backyard garden? Do you draw it out? Pinterest it? What types of gardens are there? How do I know what's best for me? I'm new to gardening and have dreams of having a beautiful garden. But have no idea where to start. We're moving to a new home with a blank backyard. A fresh canvas.

I appreciate you sharing zone 4 compatible plants! I can't say that enough-- I was so sad before I found you, as I was not finding anybody who seemed as knowledgeable and talented that would talk about plants that would work in my zone! Please continue to share information about a wide range of zones

Would any of the plants mentioned make a nice screen wall for privacy? I have a new home on 3 acres of open yard with full sun. I live in zone 6. I would love to plant some easy to maintain, pest resistant, sturdy schrubs that will be in full sun, clay and sandy soil. Also, deer resistant. Thanks

Have often used Ninebarks as the height in container planters, leaving them full or thinning significantly, depending on the design. In zone 5 spots protected by overhangs, etc, they have survived multiple winters before needing to be transplanted into the landscape due to size.
