You inspired me to finally plant garlic. So I did. Right after I finished tulips & daffodils. Nestled them into my new raised beds, that is after chopping icey soil cuz its almost the end of November (Im in a high zone 5/5b. Finished as the sun went down. Two minutes after taking shoes off and collapsing in a comfy chair, the lightbulb went on. I planted whole heads, not cloves! Well. back out the next morning to undo & re-do before the big storm hits. Wish me luck.

I really like the layout of the garden!
And just a FYI, most Italian garlic are soft neck, not a hard neck.
Maybe its just the way its labelled where you live, but we grow lots of garlic, and use an italian variety from where my family originates from in Italy, and i can tell you i only every seen soft neck garlic there.
When it comes time to harvest it, you braid them, and hang them.

I have a question. I planted my garlic two weeks ago and mulched it with straw and I just lifted up a corner to see if anything is going on and the layer that's against the compost is moldy is that going to ruin my 175 cloves. If it matters I'm in RI not Long Island Rhode Island. We get that question. lol you probably have never heard of us.

Garlic was all sold out last fall when I started looking. I just went to a Publix and bought organic garlic and planted it. I just harvested it and they were huge! I planted the two packs I bought, which was a LOT of garlic lol. But it worked fine if you cant find any online or at a garden center.

Lover of Garlic and goes on all my meats just about. I never knew there was so many different kinds. I was actually wondering if it could be grown from cloves you buy in a jar. I guess not. New to gardening as of last year to more herbs this year.

Awesome video. This fall the husband and I are redoing out tiny back yard by putting in a little patio and raised beds. Im planning what to plant for next year and I thought about fall garlic. Seems so simple. Thanks for easy explanation.

I planted garlic in an elevated raised bed - started to come up in the fall, but never grew in the spring. Do you think since the cold air surrounds the entire planter was the reason? (Sort of like bridge freezes before road surfaces. lol.

Hi Laura, You said the Italian garlic you planted is hard neck but so far I haven't found any information on this garlic except it is a soft neck early Italian type of garlic. Can you tell me where you found this garlic? Thank you.

Great video! I also plant hard necks and they last until the spring. Here in Quebec, Canada winters can be brutal and I am happy to see the garlics in late spring. I also like watching your informative videos. Thx, Nadia from Montreal
