Aloe Vera Care Guide! Garden Answer Caroline: Aloe barbadensis is not poisonous. The GEL is good for the skin AND its contents. The layer just under the leaf should be avoided, however, the gel will do no harm. There are no known contraindications of aloe to any medications. In fact, drinking aloe daily has been shown to reduce the dosage of some medications. (This is from personal experiences)
To extract the gel is simple. Remove both sides of the leaf. With your thumb, very gently slip out the gel onto clean receptacle. Add it to food, drink, or use it on skin that is cleaned of sweat or dirt as in animal scratch or abrasion. .
Bill Coats of Aloe Vera of America is a great source of info on the internet, about aloe and its benefits. For instance:
1. Aloe Vera has All 21 amino acids in the gel
2. It's antiviral
3. It's anti bacterial
4. It's antifungal

One of most delicious fresh drinks I have pretty much every week! Yummm. You can cut those clear meat into small cubes and put them in a glass of water, add a little honey, some minced ginger (or mint, squeeze in some lemon juice, and add some ice. Even pour in some chia seeds or whatever if desire. Fresh and yum! You can use water, oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. Pretty much if you add a touch of sugar they'll taste like Jello: -. I only eat the fatty thick big leaves, non-white spot leaves as they're more for eating and have less Aloin.

hey, so i got an aloe plant a couple weeks ago. ive never owned a plant in my life and know extremely little. ive just noticed a few brown scratches (i dont think they are scratches but thats what they look like) on the leaves. is he getting too much sunlight? i live in a second storey apartment so the only windows i have face west. also if i were to put it anywhere else but the window ledge there would be no sunlight at all. its either all or nothing. any advice? maybe i should give him a day in the light and a day without?

I have a tall plant that has thin leaves without much gel. I would love to buy this type but I'm not crazy about it smelling like body odor since I want to use it for skin and hair.
Any suggestions as to what type to get that would have thick full leaves packed with aloe gel that smells clean and fresh like I always believed it would. My plant isn't very good for the gel but it definitely does not smell bad. Thx!

Hi, Laura. I have an aloe plant that is top heavy the stem is pretty long and I have other pups growing in the same clay pot. My question is about re-potting my aloe plant. Do I use a smaller or larger diameter clay pot, a taller amd smaller diameter one? As I said the stem is long and thick probably around 2. 5 feet high, my plant is actually leaning sideways. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I do have one more question can any aloe plant get really big if you put it in a really big pot? I just got my first aloe plant I got 4 all the same strain but it doesn't say which strain. I'm going to try contacting Amazon and try to figure it out. Not to be confusing aloe is not my first time growing plants I garden a little every year. But I'm big on sun flowers I make em big. Great video very informative

I've just gotten my first aloe plant. I have a notorious black thumb. I immediately put it outside since it is summer, in the sun, and I watered it. I now know I likely over watered it and it needs to move to a different location outside. How can I help it not die from already over watering it? It is spreading it's little arms out and it was already light colored near the middle when I bought it.

Fantastic! Now I know why my plant shouldn't be on my kitchen windowsill. It's a northeast-facing windowsill in Los Angeles. Now that it's brown and dried up, is there hope to restore it, or do I need to start afresh with a new one?
Great video, and the only You Tube video that I watched entirely at. 75 speed. You talk faster than my brain can think, but I like your energy.

I have an almost dead aloe plant that I rescued from our grandma. I hope I can save it. It's paper thin and had a lot of dry and brittle leaves. I repotted and used all new cactus soil and gave it some much needed water. Hopefully it survives. Never cared for an aloe plant before, so fingers crossed, although it may be too far gone at this point. We'll see!
